Sorry to put this in the main forum, but I need some help right away. I know this will be moved to the support forum, but I wanted to get some attention right away.

I have Dell latitude D600 laptop running Win. XP. I ran some updates last night and now I have no INTERNET connectivity.

Tried to do a 24 hour system restore but no go. My laptop will not let me do system restore. WHY?

I have got to get this working soon. PLEASE HELP!

Someone help me. PLEASE! :)

Sincerely,

Dell laptop owner. :eek::

First thing is to look at your windows update log, which I believe is at C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log of something like that, and see if there were any network card driver updates that may have messed something up. You can try, then, to remove the updates done last night one by one until you see what possibly caused the problem. Be sure you disable AntiVirus or other Security software that could have possibly caused an issue. With these disabled you can try running Windows Update again in case your security software prevented an install.

My first thought on the system restore is maybe it's disabled. I have only tried to use it once and it didn't work so I don't use it.

On the internet issue I'd download the drivers from dell support and reinstall the drivers.

Or just try deleting the device from device manager and reboot. After the network card is reinstalled try the internet again.

i like this idea, but i would also try and boot into safe mood, then once in windows in safe mode - try to restore then. You should be able to then unless you have restore off.

in case you do not know how to go into safe mode: restart computer, then as soon as the dell splash disappears, hit f8 a few times, after a few seconds, you should have the boot up option screen appear. click on safe mode

I agree. Get your driver for your network driver.

I don't endorse Dell laptops though. (get a Sony Vaio next :) )
Too many cook on your lap.

Dell makes a good desktop but not so much on laptops.

The latitude line is a very good line but I don't care for the inspiron line.

I hear ya.

But I have had both. They both get too hot to put on your lap and the keyboards are warm. I hate that.

I have worked on too many of them as well. Elevating them so they don't heat up while I fix them.

A guy I work with closed his laptop and put it in his bag not realizing it was still on. It got hot enough to fry the mobo and hard drive and warp the plastic. After I got it fixed for him, warranty repair :D, I made sure to change the setting to turn it off when closed. :laugh2:

Whoah... I believe it.

I just put a fresh copy of Windows on my uncle's 2 year old Dell Inspiron. He was using it while it was seated deep in his black computer bag. Cutting off all exhaust air from the fan.

I said, THIS is a NO-NO. Then I will fix. OK? :laugh2:

I got it to accept a 24 hour restore point but that didn't solve the problem.

I have typically been able to solve problems with my desk top, but this laptop is killing me. :(

Maybe a new day will bring a some fresh insight. But that doesnt let YOU :D off the hook... keep thinking people. ;)

What is not working exactly?
You cannot connect to internet?

Give some details of your error messages?

Have you tried to reinstall the network drivers for the LAN as well as the wireless??

This may sound stupid, but...I have an HP laptop and last week I was cleaning the keyboard surface with a little cloth that came with the laptop.

Well, the computer was running, and I have this little light right above the keyboard that will turn the Wireless Connection off or on...blue when on, red when off.

Well, I did not realize that when I cleaned the surface that I accdently turned off the Wireless Assistant and could not get on the internet.

I did a restore...nothing. Then BINGO...I realized what I did and just used my finger and turned the Wireless Assistant back on to blue...and I had internet.

Now, I'm sure that is not your problem, but it had me confused for about 30 minutes or so.

The thing is.... I have no bias.

I did a price comparison for memory size, mhz, hd size etc and I got a Sony Vaio for less than half the price of the Mac and the Mac STILL didnt have the maxed out mem, hd size.

I want MORE for my money. I dont rep for the sake of repping. Gimme, gimme sumtin. ;)

I agree on vista. I hate it but have no choice to use it at work. :(

I have to setup a 64 bit vista pc at work and I'm not looking forward to it.
