1. War daddy - The lack of passrush doomed the 2016 playoffs. Taco was rated as a 2nd round pick, and there are questions whether he is a RDE or not. However that was the best we could do at #28. It appeared there was interest in trading up possibly for Harris (picked at #22), but the FO seems too desperate to replace the DBs instead.
Sad to see Willis, Basham and Rivers all picked up in the 3rd round before our pick. May be a trade could be done with a Sheldon Richardson for get a DL that consistently demands double teams. Perhaps by trade deadline.

2. CBs - Allowing Mo and Carr to leave created this problem, and 3 CBs were drafted to throw numbers at the problem. Given 2 of the 3 were 2nd round rated, the problem has probably been adequately addressed. Rookies may get burnt in the 1st half of the season, but should probably be decent by the end of the season.

3. Safety - Allowing Wilcox and Carr to leave made this a concern, but neither were special in the first place. The cheap FA and the 6th round S probably can replace the depth, assuming Heath starts. Heath is faster than Wilcox/Carr anyway.

4. RT - Free retired (thank god) but 'replaced' with someone about as bad but much cheaper. With the focus on the backfield, no mid-round RT was picked.

5. WR - a slot receiver was brought in with similarity to Beasley - possibly an improvement over Lucky for returner.

6. A few other players were drafted but look like practice squad types e.g. big slow inexperienced WR from Ohio State.

In summary, the FO did a good job replacing lost DB pieces, but the #1 need probably not solved. The revolving door at RT seems to be still there in the form of a different player.

Doing the right thing is creating a problem?

Also the #1 need is fixing the pass rush not ROT. Clearly by not drafting any OT's the Cowboys feel they have players currently on the roster to replace Free.

#1 problem is a passrush.
I dont consider it resolved at this point with a 2nd round rated player who may or may not be a RDE.
The RT is the least critical of the 3 issues (RDE, DB, RT) since Free would be replaced by the injury-prone Green and the FA who is probably similar enough to Free to make it a push.

Impossible to fill the number one need picking at 28. Pass rushers don't go grow on trees. The war daddy comment was dumb, it's easier to find a pro bowl caliber QB than a 4-3 defensive end that can get double digit sacks. What was realistic was getting another guy that can get a half dozen sacks for our rotation.

The number one need going into the draft was secondary...we were actually a middle of the pack team last season in sacks and that is with our "best pass rusher" being suspended and injured.

Yes, they did the best they could given that they did not use picks 2-4 to trade up.
Draft is a crap shoot, so the other thing they could have done is used picks 2-4 to draft more DEs to throw more numbers at the problem - like what was done with DBs.
For example Willis, Basham and Rivers were picked in round 3.

Secondary was a need because we let both starting CBs go.
If we kept one of them, we could have ignore it for another year.
Much easier to draft CBs than DEs.

?
Think many of us celebrated Free being gone.
At least now it is a cheap piece of garbage instead of an expensive one.

Ridiculous. Send me a list of who so I know never to care what any of you say.

8 year starter and leader of one of the best units in the league called a piece of garbage.

Ridiculous.

given the number of posts you made, you know darn well.
for 1.5M aav more, we could have kept parnell instead of the piece of garbage.

Aid healthy, Chad Green >>>> Doug Free.

They have 4 options at RT, and all are better than Free.

We let them go because of the depth at the position this draft. Now we have 3-4 quality corners on contract for 4 years instead of 1-2 and a couple overpriced veterans that were never good enough to begin with.

I don't believe we are bad enough with our defensive ends to throw multiple picks and have to cut someone.

if green was healthy, we would not have a problem.
but he was out for 3/4 of the games in 2016 unfortunately.
given his health record, may be better off keeping him as a swing tackle who does not have to play as much to keep him healthy.

He was impressive in two starts at LT.

yes, we could replace the DBs, particularly given the depth in the position of the draft.
however, that put the FO in a bad position and had to use how many picks for DBs? 4?
that draft capital could have gone into trading up from #28 and getting multiple players so that increases the chance on hitting on a RDE.

cutting someone is fine if it increases our chance of landing a daddy.
we now have taco, who is a 2nd round pick rating.
i wonder who they were trying to trade up for - i think it was harris.
given the price was probably a 2nd round pick, they could not afford to.
because they created holes in the backfield they have to fix.
imo, rather go with more DE candidates and UDFA DBs if we could get the daddy.

I didn't hear they were trading up for anyone and I watched the war room pretty constant day 1, could be wrong though.

Even if we did sign back Mo/Carr...we would have been dumb to trade up in a draft this weak.

Really thought they said one of the Jones picked up the phone around pick 20 and the camera was turned off?
That is why I thought they wanted Harris.

Taco was rated as high as 17th over all by several sites so your bias piece get off on the wrong foot. Everybody has an opinion and thats what this board is about.

Did you ever complain about our secondary Waldo? Did you ever come on the board suggesting to get rid of Wilcox,Mo or Carr?
The FO allowed those players to go get bigger money then they were worth in the FO's eyes.
It didn't create a problem,it upgraded.
