Just me, or did this forum make a turn to negative town this weekend? Man alive. I swear some of you guys think we lost to the bears are the worst team in the NFL and are 9-4 by sure luck.
Are chances to make the playoffs are bleak even at 11-5. How can you not understand the negativity? We have to win out to make it. That sucks. You'd think being 9-4 we'd have some room for error.
We're a playoff lock at 12-4. We've got between a ~78% chance of being in with 11 wins, and a ~25% chance of getting in with the various combinations of 10-6 that still exist. Across the board, we're still more likely to be in the playoffs then to be outside looking in. So the overwrought negativity *is* irrational.
That 78% doesn't mean much when the other teams in the same situation are mid to high 90's. It will be a sad day if we miss out with 11 wins
It means 78%. There are lots of games left to be played. Not everybody is going to get to 11-5, obviously. We win our easiest two, and there's still 4 chances in 5 we're in the playoffs when it's all said and done.
Kind of but not really. It is not 78% chance of making the playoffs to 22% of another team not making it. Det is 98%, ARI is 97 and SEA is up there too if they end at 11-5. I don't know about you, but I would rather be on that end of the spectrum. Those stats are misleading and not to be taken for exact percentages, or arbitrary.
I agree with the number of games left to be played but those statistics are not definite.
If you're asking of I'd rather have a 98% chance of making the playoffs, then, yes. All the 78% means is that's the weighted average of the percent of times the Cowboys make the bracket when all the possible scenarios that could play out are hypothetically played out. Most of those scenarios probably hinge on two or three remaining games that have to go our way for us to get in, which is why our probabilities are lower than other teams with similar records. Beat Philly, and the whole probability chart changes again.
Whatever. We can't all make it. The only thing for it is to keep winning the games. Which is fine by me because I think we should have to beat PHI at least once to qualify. And I want to see us beating good teams and playing our best football at the end of the year. Overall, I care a lot more about the direction of the organization than I do about any one individual game or individual season. If we get to 11-5 but can't get in because we couldn't defend better against PHI or IND, that's not much different for me than qualifying for the post season and getting bounced once we get there for the same reason. If we go, I'd like it to be because we're playing well. We finish strong with wins against the Bears, Eagles, Colts, and Skins and get in the post season looking like a team that's hot at the right time and has an actual shot to win some playoff games. If we play well and lose because we still lack talent on defense, that's ok with me, as long as we then go out and add a bunch of talent on defense and get in a better position to make a run again next season.
I just don't want to see us going backwards and getting older and playing worse.
As long as you understand the math part, cool
You know I am anti-Garrett but if this team wins 11 and misses, I can not condone his firing. That record would be a step in the right direction as far as I am concerned. If we lose to Philly and Indy, then it is a different story and I may be forming a witch-hunt Salem style! It would all depend on how we go out..........
