how was it that the neighbors friend was able to get the dog and drive off with it. Seems that a pit would be after anybody that was not his owner. And why would the neighbors friend allow this to happen. A pit attacking a kid and an adult just protects the dog, Incredible.

Anyway, I can not believe that the owner of a dog would have a dog that would attack a child. I love my dog, but if I ever saw him go after anybody especially a child he would be gone.

My neighbor practices archery in his backyard. I would say get a target, position it toward your neighbors backyard, practice, practice, practice. Then when the animal comes out, accidently miss and hit the dog and end your miseries. If the owner comes out, just say "my bad".

One of the neighbor's friends visits quite frequently over the past year. He was the one who took the Pit away afterwards. They have also had quite a few people over at the house to "party". The Pit simply perceives that anyone invited in is no threat apparently.

Rowdy,

Dallas is only a couple hours away from you. Have you seen the progress on the new stadium? You can come down and spend Friday afternoon to Sunday night seeing the sites. Heck, I could even meet you and buy you a beer. We could even meet up at Chucky Cheese's with our kids. Do you have some one you trust that could check your dogs while you are gone? Maybe a friend or relative from another town?

Much appreciated Rackat.

I got up early today and headed down to the police station to talk to the Animal Control officer myself. He told me that even if a dog bites someone, there is a ten day holding of the dog and then it is returned to the owner. I then asked him if his own website was up to date that listed the city ordinances and he said yes. I then asked him why was this dog not considered vicious since it had already attacked a human just like the ordinance states. He then proceeded to tell me he pet the dog and it was friendly. WTH.

So I then repeated to him that as an Animal Control officer, he should know that a lot of dogs will not show aggression standing next to the owner and he agreed. Okkkkkk.....Then he brought up the fact that I stated that the other officer pet it too. I gave him a dumbfounded look and said, "did you not hear me the two times I told you that they whisked the dog away and the officer was lied to?" He said nothing. My wife and I are wondering if the owner of this house somehow is affecting their behavior because it is uncanny how all these officers are acting strangely. The owner doesn't seem like anyone of importance but who knows. I told him that if I lied to an officer, I would expect to be in a lot of trouble and was wondering why this wasn't being pursued and he said nothing.

I then told him I was going ahead with pressing charges under "harboring a vicious animal" anyway. He basically stated that the dog would have had to bite my daughter. I then told him that any general interpretation of that law I stated in an earlier post said nothing about the success of any attack. It doesn't make a dog any less vicious because his attack did or didn't break skin. Therefore, that would have to be added to the law and it simply stated "an attack on humans" period. My daughter was saved due to her backpack and I don't want to think what would happen if it wasnt there. Before I left, I told him that my daughter was simply attacked and nothing was being done about it. The owner in my book failed on two counts.

1. Failure to keep his dog properly confined on his property.
2. Harboring a vicious animal.

We will be calling several places today and this week to see what our options are. These people amaze me.

Contact your local newspaper and at least one of your local TV news stations.

I cant imagine one of them wont be willing to run a story about it or help you out. Pitbulls get attention and that is good for papers and news stations. And it will be good for you because it will get the attention of the police department and the neighbors that you are not fooling around.

Encourage them to come to your house and see the dog over the fence.

I saw a story on cbs 11 about 3 weeks here in DFW that is almost the same as yours. The family was at work and there pitbulls got loose and attacked a neighbor, lucky for him two other neighbors were driving by and they happened to help him get the dog off him and thew him in there car till animal control got there.

THey interviewed the owner and she acted like it was no big deal. She said it was uncommon or something to that effect that her dog would attack and had no plans to do anything to the dog. I think they took the dog away that night and were going to evaluate him or something.

I really think it could help you. Local tv and newspapers love to have stuff on lazy police and city officers.

What's happening to Rowdy is a gross act of negligence on the part of the authorities.
That dog has already attacked his kid and nothing has been done.
Thank God that stupid dog did not cause her great harm.
Rowdy is a better man than me.
That dog is as good as dead in my book.

If something "happens" to that dog, be out of town. Alibi.

.

I wasn't even finished reading the story when this thought came into my head.

I love animals just like anyone else. But I love my own kids more.

Rowdy,

I had this same thing happen some years ago to my step son.

We never said anything before the attack but we were always worried about a pitbull next door.

He was never outside except for being let out to do his business. The problem was he would run into our yard to do it. When any of us were outside and he was let out, he would run straight at us and start barking like a lunatic.

I would jump in front of my kid and yell at the dog and it would stop like it had air breaks.

Well, eventually my kid was outside by himself he was 12 at the time but he is mildly autistic. The dog was let out and he ran at my kid and bit him in the calf.

When I got home I was told about it and went to the neighbor who I really never had much communication with. She had only been in the neighborhood for a couple years but wasn't very sociable.

I told her what happened and she said, "I know, your wife was here B******** about it."

She had told my wife to put a band aid on it because it was small teeth.

Well, I told her I would call the police and she would get the Doctor bill as I wasn't turning it into my insurance.

She slammed the door and was done.

I called a friend of mine who worked with the local PD and asked what I should do.

Officially he said to sue her. He would come out and take a report. He did but I didn't take her to court. She was interviewed by the police and was told if the dog came on my property again I would have the right to shoot it to defend my home and family. (It is illegal to discharge a firearm in that community for any other reason).

I went to her and told her if I saw the dog outside in my yard again, I would shoot the dog dead in it's tracks and I would have justification for doing it.

She thought I was full of it.

I shot the dog three days later when it came into my yard to do it's business. When he did his business, I did my business.

She freaked and it was a swell time on the block that night.

A good time was had by all.

I have no compunction about killing the dog. I love dogs but as was said before, I love my kids more.

She tried to get the dog but I wouldn't let her come on my property and I called the cops myself. I wanted them to see where the dog was.

She had no recourse but to try and make my life miserable.

She failed. She moved out after the kids on the other side of her smeared vicks vapo rub on her house windows and on her car windows during halloween.

Thought that was a hoot as she was the only one who git it.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that. It's not good to hear that misery loves company but it is good to know that others deal with this issue as well or have.
