Rowdy,
Dallas is only a couple hours away from you. Have you seen the progress on the new stadium? You can come down and spend Friday afternoon to Sunday night seeing the sites. Heck, I could even meet you and buy you a beer. We could even meet up at Chucky Cheese's with our kids. Do you have some one you trust that could check your dogs while you are gone? Maybe a friend or relative from another town?
Much appreciated Rackat.
I got up early today and headed down to the police station to talk to the Animal Control officer myself. He told me that even if a dog bites someone, there is a ten day holding of the dog and then it is returned to the owner. I then asked him if his own website was up to date that listed the city ordinances and he said yes. I then asked him why was this dog not considered vicious since it had already attacked a human just like the ordinance states. He then proceeded to tell me he pet the dog and it was friendly. WTH.
So I then repeated to him that as an Animal Control officer, he should know that a lot of dogs will not show aggression standing next to the owner and he agreed. Okkkkkk.....Then he brought up the fact that I stated that the other officer pet it too. I gave him a dumbfounded look and said, "did you not hear me the two times I told you that they whisked the dog away and the officer was lied to?" He said nothing. My wife and I are wondering if the owner of this house somehow is affecting their behavior because it is uncanny how all these officers are acting strangely. The owner doesn't seem like anyone of importance but who knows. I told him that if I lied to an officer, I would expect to be in a lot of trouble and was wondering why this wasn't being pursued and he said nothing.
I then told him I was going ahead with pressing charges under "harboring a vicious animal" anyway. He basically stated that the dog would have had to bite my daughter. I then told him that any general interpretation of that law I stated in an earlier post said nothing about the success of any attack. It doesn't make a dog any less vicious because his attack did or didn't break skin. Therefore, that would have to be added to the law and it simply stated "an attack on humans" period. My daughter was saved due to her backpack and I don't want to think what would happen if it wasnt there. Before I left, I told him that my daughter was simply attacked and nothing was being done about it. The owner in my book failed on two counts.
1. Failure to keep his dog properly confined on his property.
2. Harboring a vicious animal.
We will be calling several places today and this week to see what our options are. These people amaze me.
