I'm a Horn's fan and the UT secondary got blistered constantly. I don't know who's fault it is, but Ross and Griffin had to be partially responsible for quite a bit of the toasting that was happening to UT.
Could it have been his twin brother (Marcus Griffin) who was the SS? Brown also had an up and down year.....

It was the fault of both safeties(Michael and Marcus), Brown missing some time for suspension and minor injuries and being replaced with young CBs and a front 7 that got no pressure all year.

I do lean towards a particular University :D BUT that aside, I was just curious where people had Griffin on their draft boards. After beating SoCal for the Nat'l Championship, some people had Griffin rated very high; even on par w/ Merriweather, Nelson, and Landry. After this season, his stock wasn't as high BUT he did have a very strong combine. I think he's going to surprise and will continue to move up. I believe he's definitely a 2nd rounder right now.....
I've never heard that or anything remotely close to it from anyone but a Horns fan. Sorry, that isn't meant to be insulting, it's just the truth. It's like Florida fans who think Chris Leak is a 1st round QB because Florida is the National Champ. Or Michigan State fans who think Drew Stanton is the best QB in this draft. Or Ohio State fans who think that because Troy Smith was the no doubt about it Heisman Trophy winner he is a 1st rounder. Same with Jason White or Josh Heuppel of year's past. You simply can't look at football with your heart.

I agree on him being a 2nd rounder, while Nelson is a definite 1st round guy who might crack top half of the 1st round. How are they even in the same discussion then?

Michael Griffin is a good safety but he is definetely the 4th best safety in this draft.

Landry, Nelson, and Merriweather are all better but Griffin isnt to far behind that group.

Griffin was used in a lot of soft coverages at Texas though so he didnt get to demonstrate his abilities to the fullest so if he goes somewhere like Chicago, Tampa, or Indy they will be very happy with the player they draft in my opinion.

I agree with this, but would take Griffin over Merriweather who I want no part of.

No offense taken, has some truths to it actually. I personally saw Griffin as no higher than a 2nd rounder before the combine (reminded me of the Bullocks Bros. from Nebraska and how they were rated). After his combine showing though, I think he's moving up in the overall draft board. He may not crack the 1st round but I think the Texans are taking a long look at him w/ their 2nd rounder. I want to see how how each fares in their pro days before I pick one over the other but at least now Griffin is in the game w/ the others.....

Considering that it's the off-season and we're working towards the draft, yeah, it's another "safety thread" so sit back and enjoy the days ahead..... :D

I would sit back if there was just 1 safety thread.

Is it really necessary to fill the entire forum with 3 types of threads?

Anyway, I thought there was a draft zone

Now where would the fun be in that?! Like I said before, we're gearing towards the draft so just relax and go with the flow; you can't stop the earth moving on its axis like you can't stop future topics like this 'til draft day.....:)

By most account: Reggie Nelson had an "average" combine.
By most account: Michael Griffin had a "great" combine.

Which FS would you want as our #1 if we went that route? Does Nelson slide to us because of his combine numbers? Does Griffin move up to us because of his numbers?

Wouldnt touch anyone from UT with a ten-foot-pole except Aaron Ross now theres a good player

I think Nelson fits the FS mold better than Griffin would.

Really? How 'bout Blalock, Crowder, or Robison? Why wouldn't you want players that would make your team better?

Maybe so; I don't know what Wade would look for in his FS & he may prefer Nelson. I'm just glad Griffin pushed his way into the conversation.....
