:laugh2::laugh1::laugh2::laugh1::laugh2::laugh2::laugh1:

Q: What will be the team's name after the move to Brooklyn?
A: I can not tell right now, but the documents are already submitted to the NBA office. The name change will happen in 2012 season.

What's so funny about that?

That's good and makes sense....so that won't be it.
Brooklyn Bullets makes more sense. besides Brooklyn Bombers is just a cheap rip-off of Bronx Bombers.

I wish Proky would just pay the Dodgers $100M and be done w/ it.

Weve pretty much ran out of team names. Unless you want to get down to the WNBA type names that dont end in "s".

Brooklyn is a borough, not a city. Why would they put a borough in the name of the team?

They will be "New York" something or other, like every other NY Metro sports team.

It has not been decided.

Q: Are you not afraid of always following the Knicks' footsteps, just like it's happening in LA with Clippers and Lakers?
A: I think that the circumstances in LA are greatly different from the circumstances in NY. Brooklyn, say Americans, is its own separate country. It's the center of immigration. They have unique energy. Many millions of people who now reside in the USA went through Brooklyn. When I was in various cities, people came up to me and said: "We are Brooklynites, give us the Nets and we will cheer for them". I think that Nets have a unique chance of becoming an All-American team because many people went through Brooklyn. No other team has a fan club outside of their own state. I think we will be the first ones who will try to create fans across America. It will be a unique concept - a whole country of fans. In the first stage we will be opening fan clubs in nearby states.
this will be right and will strongly position the team.

Smartest thing they can do. Destroy anything that was associated with New Jersey.

That seems related more to placing the team in Brooklyn, not naming them after a borough.

A nickname is one thing, but to outright name them "The Brooklyn ______", is highly unlikely.

The new arena blueprints also had Brooklyn on the floor

Who knows. They need to do research on it though. I think it sounds better

Why is it unlikely? Several teams have named themselves after Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Dodgers is the most well-known and subsequently the most used from all the defunct Brooklyn teams. Go ahead and check wikipedia.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_in_Brooklyn

The history of baseball in Brooklyn is it's own thing entirely, that I won't pretend to be well versed in but you may be overlooking the fact that when the Dodgers were formed, Brooklyn actually WAS a city. That's no longer the case.

That's like naming a team "The Manhattan Dodgers" at this point.

The Nets is actually a solid name already. If there are any teams that need to change their name, it should be the Hornets, Bobcats, Grizzlies, and Thunder. The Utah Jazz is technically silly but there's too much history there that it's become a household name.

They should keep the Nets name and go throwback with the jerseys...old red white and blue.

They will be "Brooklyn" though. They'll be able to market tons of merchandise to urban youth featuring the "BKLN" moniker.

With their new Russian owner, they should call them the New York Nyets.
