Joe, not a reach for me. I respect talent and for sure Big Ben has that. That aspect doesn't override criminal behavior. I think he should have a felony conviction on his record but the Rooney family has lots of clout in the NFL and Pitt area.

On a lighter note I totally despise the Stealer organization. I think both SB wins against the Cowboys in the 70's were driven by officiating. Some horrible calls. The Stealers suck.

I hate the sealer organiation too, but I've looked into Ben's alleged assault case and I can say with confidence that he did not committ a crime. She consented and then changed her mind after the fact, seeing an easy payday. I'm a father with a daughter and would never want a female sexually assaulted so you know I would be the first to call Been a criminal if he really did it. The Rooney family may very well have paid his legal fees but that doesn't make him guilty of anything.

Nope. Joe Montana didn't mentor steve young, Farve didn't mentor Rodgers . Roger didn't mentor Danny White, and no starting qb worth a damn in the NFL should do anything to help his back up take his job.

This is the stupidest fan and media narrative about starters helping back ups. I was a starter when I played and the things I saw that helped me be successful I kept in my toolbox. I ain't putting it in anyone else's.

During the first four seasons you were in the league, you served as the back up to Roger Staubach. How would you describe the relationship between the two of you?

Danny: I always had the utmost respect for Roger. He always treated me as a peer and not as a subordinate. I learned a lot from him about being a professional and will always consider him a great friend.

Players are supposed to do what it takes to help their teams be the best they can be. Mentoring their backups is part of that responsibility. Not being scared of losing their jobs because they share information. If your scared of losing your job because you help your back up, then maybe you aren't good enough to be the starter. A player comfortable in their place on the team should be more than willing to share information with their backups.

Ben loves the drama. That is why one week you see him in a walking boot, but he has no problem playing and moving well the next game. He spent all of last off season leaning heavily towards retirement. What team wouldn't start doing something about their long term future at the QB position in that situation?

If I were a GM of a multibillion dollar NFL team, I'd probably double check with the guy at the top of our payroll on his retirement plans before I draft his replacement. So maybe they didn't, which is nuts, or they did and drafted the guy anyway... which is nuts.

3rd round pick makes a nice cheap backup. We all know that backups are worthless and if you starting QB goes down the season is done. But you still need someone to fill in . I could see if the used a #1 on a QB . Ben is just showing how mentally unstable he is . BTW the backup QB comment is sarcasm ... I know there will be some that miss it and the joke
