Never did like Roethlisberger

I mean I can see why he would not want to help the Rook take his job, but you do not say that out in the open media. You just say you will do what you can to help out, but in reality dont really do it. You say it out in the open and you just open yourself to his kind of crap.

I used to not mind Ben but after I heard this story I hope the rest of his career is nothing but failure and misery. What a chump.

Players are supposed to do what it takes to help their teams be the best they can be. Mentoring their backups is part of that responsibility. Not being scared of losing their jobs because they share information. If your scared of losing your job because you help your back up, then maybe you aren't good enough to be the starter. A player comfortable in their place on the team should be more than willing to share information with their backups.

Ben loves the drama. That is why one week you see him in a walking boot, but he has no problem playing and moving well the next game. He spent all of last off season leaning heavily towards retirement. What team wouldn't start doing something about their long term future at the QB position in that situation?

Absolutely disagree with this
There are 32 starting NFL QBs and it is a high paying job that has a very very limited shelf life

There is no way you can expect any thinking competitive person in those circumstances to mentor and help their replacement

What a “me first” guy. This is how locker rooms get divided. Hoping nothing but the worst for them.
Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre. Those are some other guys who didn't mentor.

Only stupid thing was Bigben declaring it, that was dumb.

Team is greater than one player, even the QB. They aren't helping their replacement. They are helping their teammate. Only someone who isn't confident in their skill level would look at it as a threat.

I can assure that I know how 'things should be'
I'm trying to explain to you how things actually are because of human nature

This is quite possibly one if the most naive things I've read from you over the years

99% of the people in Ben's place will have the same reaction and attitude whether they say it or not

While we're at it
There should be no wars
Poverty and hunger should be eradicated
Everyone should be educated and wise
Equality should be the rallying cry

And on and on

I would be naive if I ignored that human nature played a part. I don't. I know it has an influence although I truly doubt it is 99% of the players. A good teammate gets past their initial emotional response and does what they can to help their team be the best it can be. Or at least they harbor those feelings, but don't present them out loud. Ben took it to the worst case. He is disruptive. If he had more confidence he wouldn't have to say anything. There are plenty of guys who have been in a similar situation and actually helped their teammates.

If I were a GM of a multibillion dollar NFL team, I'd probably double check with the guy at the top of our payroll on his retirement plans before I draft his replacement. So maybe they didn't, which is nuts, or they did and drafted the guy anyway... which is nuts.

Bash him all you want. Ben is right.

They don't need to consult with Ben about ****. They pick the players and he plays. That's how it works.

Yeah they're usually the Josh McCown types. No one respects Joe Montana less for never taking Stebe Young under his wing. I think the great qbs help by being great and showing the back up what he has to outperform.

Who knows what happens to Steve in his career jad Leonard Marshall not blown up Joe in the 1990 NFC Championship game.

Wah-HOOOO! This is a thread I can get behind and support 100%. Let the Rothlisbooger trashing begin and don't stop even if someone else already insulted him in the same fashion. First off, he's a Steeler. Second off, he's the QB for that team. I shouldn't speak so poorly of an individual, but he had it coming.
That's because every year when he's ready to hang his cleats, his attorney calls saying he needs to pay more hush money.:p

Still amazes me how the Rooney's (supposedly run a tight ship) held on to him after the deal in the womens bathroom. Just goes to show you, it's not what you do wrong, its who you are.
