Serious post:
Johnny Walker Blue is a fantastic Scotch that's way beyond even my price range, but honestly I like JW Green better.
It's a more intense experience. JW Blue (Even the Louie the XVIII bottle) is wonderful and smooth like silk covered canvass, but I love the punch in the face that JW Green smacks you with.
I used to work for Western Beverages in Austin at both Costco's years ago.
I was a bit of a local celebrity as my alcoholic acumen was well known and I was brutally honest about liquor no matter what we were trying to push.
Shoot- I told Dan Akroyd in his face his Skull Vodka was a magnificent joke and good for nothing but Halloween decoration with that beautiful bottle during a bottle signing at a Spec's in Southwest Austin.
Filtering Vodka through crushed crystal... give me a break.
He respected my candor.
I befriended the official Johnny Walker rep during one of his visits (straight from Scotland, old guy who was a party a minute. Loved that thick accent. Very cool cat.) and he straight up opened a 750mL of JW Blue and gave it out as samples at the WB.
No joke.
And what was incredible, yet unsurprising was that nobody, but for a select few who came in even tried what he was offering.
They had no clue.
I drank til I was red in the face. I was known to get a bit umm... plastered on the clock, but I was always totally in control (ha!) so my boss tolerated me (he was too nice, but I understood that I literally helped his bottom line).
I digress: That guy gave me the bottle of JW Blue and all that was left over in it (Yup- I know that is very illegal in the State of Texas, but back then I didn't give a flying flip. I guess you could argue that I still don't).
He also opened a bottle of Green and Gold and he gave me all three bottles to take home. Oh- and a bottle of only one shot drank Dalwhinnie.
I became an avid fan of Johnny Walks and I've had more than at least two bottle of every...err... version. I mean- they're all blends with different ages and themes of selection really.
And I have to say am a true fan of the JW Green. I love the intensity without the insane amount of smokiness that some Scotches will blast you with like an Oban.
Lord- that is like licking Clint Eastwood's face...
So I respect Jerry saying that Johnny Walks Blue is really good- especially from a rich person that believes that image is everything, but I have to respectfully say that I believe that JW Blue is wonderful, but Green is much better.
Not that anybody here cares and all... I just made an executive decision to state my mind on this extremely important subject on a Dallas Cowboy NFL Board.
