Doesn't crash like Vista or other Windows. No anti-viral or malware stuff. Instant on and off.

These are my favorite things about the Mac. Out of my 3 years of use with my laptop, downloading a whole bunch of stuff and working on it everyday, I have not once had to reinstall anything. Rewind to when I used to use Windows, I had the blue screen and had to reformat at least 3 times.

I had to install Vista with Parallels on my iMac for school and I freaking hate it and can't wait to take it off.

You have done well, my sister in Mac. Go forth and prosper.

J/K I like it, too. But I'm still on the learning curve. It's got to be better than Windows. Is the Mac OS Linux based?

It's based on Unix... They rewrote their code based on Unix at the start of the OS X series and it's come a long way. Leopard in my opinion stinks, so I keep my home computer on Tiger and suffer through Leopard at work.

Snow Leopard comes out in Sept, so maybe that'll be better. I hope so, because I'm still missing some apps because I refuse to put Leopard on my machine.

What are your issues with Leopard? I've been using it pretty much since day 1 without any real trouble...and I do pretty serious high-octane stuff every day.

It has problems when tabbing between Apps. The menu bar constantly remains the previous app, i.e. tabbing from Finder to Photoshop; when working in Photoshop, I find a key command isn't working, because the menu bar is still functioning as the Finder bar. So I have to tab back and forth to get it to be the right menu bar.

It happens in all apps, Lightwave, Illustrator, whatever. This is supposedly fixed in 10.5.7, but I wouldn't know because they're not much help with updating the OS in increments around here.

The dock acts just silly at times too, with the Finder icon sometimes overlapping my P'Shop icon, which is always in that spot after Finder.

So far Tiger has been the pinnacle of OS X, with not one drop of trouble, which kind of stinks, because I need the software that only works with Leopard/

don't know how easy or hard it is to place Trojan horse or whatever. Mac supposed to be safe but what the heck do I know.

I do want to keep some programs until I can afford to gradually buy and replace the ones I'll use.

Find a torrent client.

Yeah. I have an in with one of my son's at school. I figure for the amount of money I have to send him for school they can let me buy some software from them on occasion. I like having discs.
