I attended the George Strait show over the weekend and got an up close and personal look at the stadium, so I thought that I would report back to the cowboyszone members my positive and negative impressions of the stadium and its operation.

First of all, the external view of the stadium can be summed up as massive and awe inspiring. The architecture is very impressive and there are several world records which have fallen to this stadium (which they reminded you of on the big screens during the concert).

The stadium access situation (roads) was unfamiliar to me, but it sure seems as though the roads will be MUCH more congested on game day than it was at the old stadium. I think that is going to be a real problem.

Premium parking will probably be going for MORE of a premium at the new stadium than the old stadium. Parking is scattered everywhere, and let me tell you, if you have tickets opposite of the parking lots like I do, you are going to hate the walk. I think parking is going to be a real issue that people really arent going to like. There isn't going to be enough parking, and it is going to be a long walk.

Another thing that I HATE about the new stadium is that I have been advised that you cannot enter the stadium except at the designated entrance for your ticket. This increases the walking distance but is partially because it is very difficult to walk from one part of the stadium to the other. You seem pretty confined to your area.

The stadium still isnt finished, but it is impossible to tell what is supposed to be there and what is not. For floor seating, there were portable (towed) bathroom facilities (which were well air conditioned) but you would think permanent bathrooms would be installed by now, if they were part of the plan. Much of the first level was not painted so I'm not sure they are done with that part, but it really leaves you wondering.

The people that work there are essentially so clueless that they are of little or no assistance. Areas are very poorly marked (if at all). Much of the entrances are down small hallways much smaller than you are used to at a stadium. I really wonder how this stadium passed fire codes. I'm very serious about that part. I don't know how much that I can stress that access, in, out and around INSIDE the stadium seems to SUCK.

There are suites on ground level (field level) and I have no idea how they will ever be able to see a game. You would think their view would be almost totally restricted of the actual game.

The video screens are massive, and are of exceptional quality. I think that Jerry built the satadium with the thought that the video screen would make up for some of the stadium's shortcomings in other areas. He is a very smart man. I am telling you .... if the big screens werent there, many fans would hate this stadium. But they are very impressive and hide a some flaws in the layout of the stadium.

The concession lines moved at a snails pace, or slower, which is to partially be expected since it was opening night. The good news is that there are very large tv's in the concession areas to insure you don't miss any of the big game.

I am sure that as time goes on that I will learn a few tricks to getting around a little bit easier in this stadium, but it is very different than I expected it to be, and much different than the old stadium. If the finished product involves porta potties on the field level instead of actual bathrooms, somebody got swindled for 1.1 billion.

In sum total, if you look at the stadium as a whole, it is one of the greatest wonders of the world, but when you "break it down" there are going to be a lot of things that people arent going to like about this stadium.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer anything that you ask which I can remember about the stadium.

I read an article that the shuttles that's supposed to service the stadium sat out the event so they could weigh the logistics of things.

So maybe by the time, the season rolls around, they'll be up and running.

BTW, thanks for your observations.

I'm anxious to see if that view is shared by others.

I have sent my third email now to my ticket salesman at the stadium to send me the link to buying parking since I didnt want section 15 and of course no reply.

If I get shut out of parking I am going to be ticked.

Good post!

The wife and I were making preliminary plans to meet up with some friends in Dallas to catch the Chargers game. We shelved that idea because we'll have a newborn when that game rolls around.

This thread, and the pictures makes me want to come up with a way where at least I can go and she can stay at home with the kids.

;)

I don't see how the parking area is going to get any better. Congested area.

I saved up throughout my freshman year of college and managed to get a ticket for the Giants home game. I'm so excited. I paid a fortune for a very high level seat, but I'm still incredibly excited to see that stadium.

lol perhaps my hyperbole meter is broken. Of course those are temporary man.

This was the first event. The stadium operations are not 100 percent yet, and still need some tweaking

im pretty sure during an actual game there wont be 10,000 seated on the field so no bathrooms should be needed.
as far as the field level suites...i am pretty sure i read that those people will also have seats in the section above them so they can view the game from there.
im betting you are right when you say traffic and parking will be a hassle. it always is when 50 or 80 thousand people congregate in one area.

I heard on the radio that the acoustics sucked for the nosebleed guys.

I don't know how accurate that was, but couple people called into a dallas radio show and said the audio was horrible up there.

Don't really see how it would be different, but whatever.

From the few comments I've read about bad acoustics, it seems like the majority of them were in the same area of the stadium, section 400, which is the very upper deck, and that at one point it was fine, then the audio went bad.

So, it sounds like an issue that's fixable and not bad design or something.

I was about to make a similar comment. The field level suites have 20 seats directly on top of them that are accessed from stairs inside the suite. The main attraction of those suites is that you have access to the club area where the players come through before getting onto the field.

Its seems the OP spent the whole night looking for what he perceived as flaws or negatives. You have the greatest, most technologically advanced stadium in the world and this guy feels the need to point out all the things he didn't like about it even though it was opening night. Yeah, they designed it so they have to truck in port-o-potties for all events with floor seating!

I was at the concert too, and alot of what the OP said he was correct about. In fact, the more I think about it, he made a pretty good point about the fire code thing. There are some weird doors that you'd have to get out between the 40 yard lines in the 200 section area that would cause people to get trampled to death if you had to get out of there in a hurry.

I chock most of it up to just being the opening night and several of these things can be fixed.

That makes more sense. I've been wondering about those field level suites since day one.

Since I am the "OP" or original poster, I will respond to the replies so far with additional insight. First off, I am a Cowboys FAN and season ticket holder for several years now, including the NEW STADIUM. (To the posters who think I was being overly critical) So, its not like I'm a jealous Commanders fan looking to stir ****. I provided my insights as I saw them. I try to play things down the middle of the fairway and be fair and impartial in my assessments.

That being said, here are some additional observations. One of the other posters was right about the sound. It seemed to be accoustically fine at some points during the concert and very bad at other times. I sat in the front row of the very lowest level in the corner.

The seats I sat in were "slightly" larger than the old seats I had in the end zone of the old stadium and were "slightly" more comfortable. I sat near a suite and the suites had "nice looking" leather type seats in them, sort of like office chairs. I don't see how they will last long in this type of environment and for this use, but I guess time will tell.

My girlfriend who is from Houston (who has season tickets to the Texans games (Club level and endzone as well) was impressed with the exterior, hated the exterior access to the stadium, and really hated the interior access to the stadium.

In the old stadium, once you were inside the stadium, you could walk all the way around the stadium inside the chain link fencing and walk the ring around the stadium to your seat. That seems to be pretty much eliminated in the new stadium. If you had friends in another section you could walk over and say hello, have a beer at halftime in the common areas and return to your seats. That seems to be a little more difficult, if not impossible in some respects in the new stadium. I'm not looking to hate the stadium, lol, just reporting my findings here folks. LOL

I am sure that as time goes on, that I will find the path of least resistance, and will get to explore the entire stadium, but as with anything, there are positives and negatives. I think the stadium was designed with a control of access in mind to differentiate between price levels of seats. Because of the controlled access though, you cant just wander around the stadium.

Because this was a concert, rather than a football game, it is hard to tell, but it looks like that there will be a significant distance from the field to the fans, which I think, to some extent, negates home field advantage a little bit.

The air temperature inside the stadium was nice and cool, but the hallways were a little too warm for comfort. Nevertheless, the temperature is much much better than normal weather temperature in the old stadium. LOL

About the porta potties issue ..... I kinda thought the same thing initially ... that maybe that area wasn't complete and that permanent bathrooms might be installed later at field level, but after some thought on the issue I really don't think so. I cant figure out the unpainted areas either ..... It really leaves you scratching your head.

Like I said before ..... If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I will be happy to answer any questions which I have enough info to give a meaningful response.

One more thing. I really dont care how much it costs within reason, I'm spending to get good parking. I would say that parking around the stadium up close (Blue Parking Equivalent at old stadium) will cost $200 per pass from a scalper at a good game. Yes. I'm serious. We better hope they run shuttles incessantly on game day.
