1a. (via Cleveland) Cal WR DeSean Jackson

explosive receiver, Jerry said that he would like to surround Romo w/ more weapons, and Jackson fits the profile, also a dynamic return man

1b. Troy CB Leodis McKelvin

fluid, athletic CB w/ great ball skills, a dynamic return man who was voted All-American after averaging 17.3 yards per punt return w/ 3 returned for TDs

2. ECU RB Chris Johnson

compact, elusive back who runs in the 4.3 range, a great receiver as well as a dynamic kick returner, led the nation in all-purpose yardage

if Johnson shoots up the draft board, this is what I would want the draft to look like

1a. DeSean Jackson
1b. Chris Johnson
2. Indiana CB Tracy Porter, South Florida CB Trae Williams, or Tennesse State CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie

None of the wrs in this draft look like guys who are ready to contribute immediately. IMO, we should look to aquire a veteran reciever that can put us over the top.

Hopefully our draft will look something like this

1a.) Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
Has good size, and great speed. Atleast at this point he looks like everything we wanted in Julius Jones. Definately there are some questions on weather he is a product of playing with a great RB, but from what I've noticed RB tandems seem to do pretty good in the pros (Caddillac/R.Brown, M.Barber/Maroney).
1b.) Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Gives us a hell of a 3rd corner. Not too physical, good but not great speed, but the man makes plays. Depending on his 40 time Aquib Talib may be a better option.
2.) Frank Okam, NT, Texas
Could be a real steal here. Allows us to move Ratliff back to DE and Okam can split with Tank Johnson. Due to his run stopping ability, our LBs can take more gambles in the passing game.
3.) Traded for..................
Obviously guys like Fitzgerald or R.Williams won't become available, but I'd be willing to bet that Chad Johnson will. Laverneous Coles is 30 now and we may be able to aquire him. Or if we go the free agent route we can keep this draft pick, but I'm only iffy on Benard Berrian who seems to be the best WR available:eek:

I thought I had read here that Jones said he was going back for his senior season?

someone posted he was leaning that way, but didn't have a link. If Jones stays, I'd draft Jonathan Stewart or Rashard Meddenhall

he is

dallasfan, I don't think we need to draft a NT because we have 4 players on the roster who can play the position, 2 who do it very well (Ferg, Ratliff), and the other 2 who are solid (Tank, Spears) and all under contract for at least 2 more seasons, and Okam is a boom or bust player, he's very hot and cold

does anyone have a link indicating which way Jones is leaning......I keep asking and no one has one.

As far as NT goes imo

Ferguson is gone. He's 34 now, and although his cap number isn't a burden, it's better to get rid of him a year early, then a year late (which may have been last year).
Ratliff is better at end, he play NT, but it isn't ideal.
Tank is solid at NT, but we'll ned someone to rotate with him
Spears' future with this team beyond 08' is iffy at best (he's scheduled for FA right?) unless the team is considering moving him to NT permenantly (which means we should draft a DE), I'd say we go NT

Ferg is one of the best NTs in the game, and even if he's cut, we have 3 options to replace him

his play at NT is more than ideal, but he would be a great DE too

which brings us to Spears

we don't need to draft a DE, we have 5 on the roster, including Ratliff

as for Spears' future, alot could happen in a year's time, esp. if he has more games at NT like he did against the Commanders

I'm going to be blunt, Okam is a bust waiting to happen, he's a poor man's Shaun Rogers

I pretty much agree. I think the last place we need to spend a 1st day pick this year is on our front 7 or our Offensive Line.

I like Chris Johnson, he's dynamic! IF I had to pick wideouts right now I'd have to go with Bowman from Oklahoma State... He's going to be a beast in the NFL!

believe you, me, my mock drafts will be constantly changing, they always do, but the one constant will be Chris Johnson and a top corner on the 1st day

I wouldn't touch Jackson.

Taking a WR in the first round that doesn't have the potential to be a #1 is foolish.

just throwing scenarios out there, although Goose has already come out and said that he's getting told that Jackson would be great value around 20-22

Jackson would be great value at 31. He'd be "meh" value at 22. Regardless, our first pick better be the best available CB.

I dunno. He's sneaking up into the first round on a lot of boards. I haven't watched Troy at all so I don't know much about him. But if he tests well at the Combine and his coverage skills are as good as people say, I'd throw in the bag of 2-3 CBs I'd like to take in the first.

same here, I need more info, but the more and more I read about him, the more I like, his punt return skills want to make me lump him w/ Cason, a bit below him, and a bit above Mike Jenkins

I'm not quite sure who I rank higher between Cason and Jenkins.

I agree, He's basically Ted Ginn. If you could have a do over draft would anyone take him in the first round?

I don't know if he has NFL cornerback skills... he had a lot of tackles the last two seasons (even though reports say he's not a real hitter), which often indicates a corner who gets beat a lot, then makes the tackle after the catch... his int numbers aren't real impressive, either (just 3 ints the last 2 seasons)...

I can't justify spending a top 50 pick on a guy whose main talents are as a kick returner... particularly when the guy in question played a rather low level of competition in college...

I really like Jenkins. Might be a decent value pick as even though he seems to have the complete package, ie. size, speed, good cover skills, he might drop down to the bottom of the 1st due to character concerns.

Same with Terrell Thomas. He might still be around by the time we come up due to his injury history. Has nice speed and good hands. Could someday end up with a lot of picks with a lot of balls being thrown his away opposite Newman.
