I noticed this formation while re-watching the game. Not sure if this has been talked about yet. But Witten is playing in Colombos spot and He in return is lined up next to Flozel on the other side as a TE? When the play starts, Davis pulls to the overloaded side.

I saw 4 plays like this. 2:17 of the first quarter, 5:30 of the 3rd and twice during the final TD Barber drive.

Pretty creative and effective.

Unless I am mistaken, baltimore was doing something like that last season.

most teams run a version of this. Its called a overloaded line most of the time.

Nice find! It is a very interesting formation. With Davis pulling to the left, you basically end up with Davis, Colombo and Flozell all blocking on the same side. Teams will more than likely catch on to this formation, but you've still got to stop it. I would imagine we have a few pass plays for that formation also.

Wow...good eye! Don't know how I missed that one, but I like the creativity!

We cetainly need to address the lack of effective run blocking that this team has shown over the past season, and this could be a way to help it.

Go back and watch it again. on 3 of the 4 plays Witten does a great job blocking the DE. The other play is hard to see.

:hammer: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Keen eye Everlastingxxx.

Great thread, and great find Everlastingxxx. All 4 of those runs got us at least 3 yards, so we'll probably see more of it.

The Ravens used this formation quite a bit last year. In fact, I think they even went with 3 OT's at times.

I love how at .35 mark Big Davis just casually swats away a Buc defender that bumped into him.

That's a pretty creative run blocking formation, ... it would probably work even better if Bigg would actually block someone.

Super job noticing that, yes some team ran that against us last year, was talked about on the board. It was either the bengals or the ravens, cant remember which team it was. Maybe the Cowboys caught onto it and used that play. Like they say, the NFL is a copy cat league, when something works, other teams will use that play too.

Yea I noticed that while I was watching the game but since it didnt work I figured Garrett would scrap it!

You can bet that the Giants coaching staff has caught on to that trend also. What's cool about that formation is that we ran out of it everytime that formation was set up. It wouldn't surprise me if Garrett, with the lead and the game in hand, continued to run that formation as run only to set up the play action pass to Witten out of it the following week. Sometimes coaches will put a formation that they don't even intend to use on tape for the opponent to gameplan for. They'll also do the same with a formation that they want to set up for a different type of play the following weeks. Good eye for catching that.

Yup. And has to spend time in practice defending it. I see Garrett adding to it each week. Take out the FB and bring in MartyB, or have 3 tightends. Maybe flip it and have Flozel on the right and Kozer pulling?

Good catch!

I would like it more going to the right though...

Then you would have a right side of Gurode, Davis, Columbo and Flo with a better pulling Kosier coming around.

I can see them unvieling that this week for the gmen.
