With Dallas cap space now projected to be a 134 million I went to overthecap.com team calculator. I wanted to get us under the cap without any more restructuring and I did.

By making Ware and Miles a June 1st cap cut and by releasing Bernadeau, Costa and Parnell we are under the cap by 2.3 million. That about what we will need to sign our draft picks.

Now if you want to be players in free agency then we can start restructuring but I think that would be a big mistake.

Romo, Lee, and Scandrick have built in restructures so I guarantee those restructures will happen. We need money for Dez, Tyron, and a couple of pieces in free agency.

I don't think we cut Parnell...depth is needed... when we cut Bernadeau, it will increase Costa's value as backup center...
he may still be cut, however, it won't be a slam dunk as some may think.

I think Weems will end up pushing Parnell off the roster. Bernadeau I don't really see getting cut without a viable alternative. Costa could easily be replaced in the draft.

We're not going to cut the starting RG or the swing OT to get a meager cap savings, anyway. Costa and Miles ought to be looking over their shoulders. Ware is probably going to redo his deal, but that's a bigger, structural issue.

With the planned built-in restructures we've already got on the books, and the cap going up, we'll end up with room to operate. I don't really want this team with that much cap available for VFA, anyway. I'd like to see us add a value-priced veteran or two that route, and just focus on the draft, otherwise.

Your plan leaves us 14.9 million over the cap, and destroys every bit of depth we have on the offensive line.

No we dont. We have money in the future for Dez and Smith. No need to restructure and push cap problems down the road. Just because they are built in doesn't mean we have to use them and we shouldn't. By not restructuring anyone this year we will have over 20 million in cap space next year after cutting free next offseason. That's plenty to resign Dez and Smith.

You realize that you need to be under the cap by March 11th right?

Yeah I know. So there will be restructuring for that reason which I hate. I think the NFL needs to change that rule. If a team can go ahead and dictate a player as June 1st go ahead and give them the June 1st savings. Stupid rule.

Dude, you didn't even get under the cap under league rules. June 1 cuts don't count until then. You should quit while you're behind.

It's important to realize that there is plenty of money to sign Dez and Tyron long term in addition to planned restructuring, even with getting some free agents here and there. Not only is the salary cap going to grow after the next TV deal, but because we haven't been giving big money out lately, once some contracts come off the books, things open up pretty well.

Yeah I just read that after I made this post. I think it's a stupid rule. So now I understand there will be restructuring to get under by March 11th. But this still allows us to stop restructuring so many players. Only Romo or Lee should be an ought to get under.

The June 1st designations were put in there to help the players, not the league.

Jones got to you, didn't he?

Kidding, this is exactly right. If you have a credit card that doesn't charge interest, its better to have bills hit three years from now when your salary is 150K instead of last year when your salary was 112K. I really don't get the idea of pushing a Hall of Fame DE off the roster - when its our biggest position of need - just because you don't want to use the credit card.

You restructure Romo, you cut Ware and with the higher cap figure you are almost under the cap.

You still need to resign Jones, so that pushes us in the wrong direction. You probably restructure Bernadeau at the very least.

If you want to be a player in free agency you can restructure Sean Lee (and not Bernadeau) which gives us 2.8 million under the cap. Add Bernadeau's restructure and we're at 3.8 million.

Basically you want to restructure enough to make the moves in free agency you want for March. Making Austin a June 1st cut helps us later in the offseason by clearing an additional 5 million dollars.

Even when restructuring, if the team doesn't use the money they can carry the money back into the next season anyway.

The idea of pushing Ware off the roster is because he is no longer worth what he is earning as a percentage of our salary cap. Anything he has done in the past has no bearing on what he will do next year. And there is no reason to believe that given an additional year of age that he will miraculously return to form. It's time to move on from Ware.

it helps us on who we cut, and how we restructure but it won't help us in FA. every team will benefit from this and thus it probably will push up salaries. the other mandate is that starting this year and over the next three years, everyteam has to spend 89% of the salary cap or pay fines....

I think we ask Bern to lower his base and cut Costa. Bern earned his pay last year
