New kickoff rule makes Turpin more impactful

What' s going to happen is he'll get it to the 35 yard line or before the 35 yard line, thus resulting in NO better results, only thing is that you'll actually see someone running with the ball instead of taking a knee!

They make changes just to make changes.
If it is not broke don't tamper with it. Or don't do it too much.

They should have let the KO as it was. However, I can see the 35 yard line creating more excitement for returns.
Remember the PAT they lined up at the 2 yard line, so a fake was always in play. Then they moved it back so that removed the surprise element. But made games more interesting if that PAT was missed. As opposed to being made 99.9% of the time.

Now the onside kick surprise is gone. So a team now knows, onside kick, or 2 point conversion.

Just another change it will take time to get used to.

Good, they get tackled at the 20 or 25. Just like the old days, when the ball was placed at the 20, then changed to the 25 from a touchback.

Make the offense drive further for a FG or TD. This actually may help the defense for once. Instead of giving the offense even a shorter field. Then fans will complain why stats are down. A player will suck because a teams offense is averaging less per scoring drive. But, hey the defenses average of yards given up will go down.

Just think how many yards less Emmitt would have had starting from the 35 instead of the 20.
Payton Manning and others would average less yards per game. 300 per game vs. 400.

I guess trying to create more points, I think scoring was down last season. I think this put more emphasis on having a skilled Kicker who can place the ball near the goalline.

or let's take it further, we know how big fantasy football/gambling is to the game from the funding it generates, guys get less yards that'll hurt big times. There's so many angles you can look at, good points that you've made Jazz

Right? This will give Aubrey the chance to have more impact actually. We'd only need to get to the 50 for him to be in range.

I honestly hate the new kickoff setup. Put the kickoff team back at their own 30, kick the ball, touch back would be at the 20 again and that's that.
While I am at it, I don't like the new playoff rules either. First score wins and that's that.

None of this ufl 3rd world country style crap. Play the game and live on

The NFL is utterly bipolar on what it wants to do with kick-offs. One year, they don't want returns because it's too dangerous, the next they try to do something to encourage more returns. Make up your mind, already!
I dont think they are bipolar on the subject. The goal is to keep kickoffs in the game and at a high rate of return. The issue has been navigating around the injury risk which seemed to be significantly lower from the new kickoff format. They change the rules every year it seems, but the goal has been pretty consistent. As long as injury rates stay down they will continue to push for more action on the field.

Didn't we have the same thread Topic last off season too? Lol . Btw, eventually they will just move the ball out to midfield instead of the 35. See how watered down and dumb the rules are making the NFL? Guess everyone needs a participation trophy.
