New Kickoff Rules

it is pretty confusing to me I still haven't figured out the rules..

The NFL has a new, permanent Dynamic Kickoff rule that was established in 2024 and refined for 2025 to increase player safety and encourage more returns. Key aspects include the kicking team lining up with the kicker at the 35-yard line and the rest of the team at the opposing 40-yard line, with no player moving until the ball is kicked. The receiving team lines up in a "setup zone" between the 30 and 35-yard lines. A kicked ball caught or landing between the goal line and the 20-yard line is a "landing zone" that must be returned. Kicks that land in the end zone or out of bounds after landing in the end zone result in a touchback at the receiving team's 35-yard line. Onside kick rules were also modified, allowing a team to declare an onside kick at any point if they are trailing

Yeah, but does anybody have true data on is the scoring up just because of this new rule change it doesn't seem like it to me because I still see a team this week that only scored nine points I saw the Buccaneers and Texans struggle to get over 20.. Held two teams that looked like gangbusters in the first half was Dallas first game against Philadelphia 2420 that doesn't sound like a lot of high scoring I mean the defenses did their job in the second half... I mean did I miss the fact that Kansas City looked like they struggled to get over 17 I mean Patrick Mahomes and that offense these kickoff rules have they really made a huge difference in scoring?

Be the better offenses you can get two or three 1st downs and kick a field goal but not everyone's doing that I like to know if this new rule change literally increased scoring and by how much?

No guessing, just real data...

i asked google,

NFL scoring hasn't significantly increased due to the recent kickoff rule changes, as the main impact has been on kickoff return rates, not overall scoring. While the new rule for the 2025 season moves the touchback spot to the 35-yard line to encourage more returns, a 2024 experiment with the dynamic kickoff saw a rise in returns but not a direct correlation to increased scoring.

the new rules were implemented to increase returns and not necessarily scoring.before the new rules only 20% of kickoffs were getting returned and the rest were dead plays which made for bad tv- upping that to 75% is a great thing imo.

Oh that's not the complaint here .look I read the original post. they think that it's unfair because it's easy to kick more field goals. well it's easier to kick more field goals are saying that it's going to increase scoring. because if it's not then we shouldn't be complaining about the new kicking rules. it hasn't really messed with the inner dynamics of the NFL game. other than they're trying to decrease injuries..

I mean that's my point right why complain about it if it's really not giving the offense that much more of an advantage unless that offense can take advantage of it and you have a kicker like us But I looked it up and I don't see a problem with the new kicking rules If everyone understands them and it's not giving anybody too big an advantage then I'm OK with it..

Sure the NFL looked into this by studying the UFL and the USFL whoever used this before so they can make sure they weren't gonna give two unfair advantage but people are talking about how it's increasing scoring that's how it's increasing ratings but I'm trying to reiterate it's not true not yet anyway..

I mean we have a dynamic returner and I don't remember any kick offs that are turning into touchdowns so I'm just trying to make sure we're on the same page that is the complaint read some of these posts they think it's trying to increase ratings by increasing scoring and I'm telling you it's not not at this point and I want to make sure everyone reads that.
