Foles was due $25 million the following year so the Eagles got rid of him.
Yes.

But @xwalker said they paid him 40 Mio over 2 years. And that is wrong.

And further the point was that he was cheap during his 2 years with the eagles. In within those 2 years they were able to win the SB.

IMO that they got rid of him shows that they also think you cant win with an expensive player at that position.

I dont know where you got this narrative from. I read this crap in our forum. But who "everybody" else is saying this ?

The last 15 or 16 SBs were won mostly by QBs on cheap deals. I think only 1 or 2 not.
I think what OP is stating is that this COULD be a new way of thinking.

Yes, having the best QB all time, and the willingness to cheat, can get u some supes with an average supporting cast.

Not sure looking at the past is a great way to evaluate this possible new way of doing things, since strategies evolve over time.

Baltimore, could be a great guinnie pig...if they actually trade Jackson.

I think going forward, teams will always pay QBs they KNOW are elite, but I think teams may be more cautious with QBs like Dak, that show some good things and excel with super strong teams, but haven't shown themselves to be able to put an average team on their back thru the playoffs.

Both Purdy and Hurts are playing on teams that are loaded. Hurts would be awful with the Texans and so would Purdy. Watson was 10 times the player Hurts is and he couldn’t win there….
The cowboys are as good as the 49ers except for the qb play and the injury to Pollard. If the cowboys had hurts or purdy in that game the Cowboys win.

From 2010 only cheap QB to win SB were Foles,Flacco and maybe Mahomes ( I am lazy to check if was on rookie contract). Others was top QB( Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Wilson) and Eli
All but Eli HOF QBs, IMO. HOF QBs don't grow on trees. Those guys are keepers until they run out of gas.

"Draft a HOF QB" is not a strategy. It's a wish.

Funny how you mention Baltimore. If ones looks closely at the Eagles, they are basically the Baltimore Ravens on steroids.

What? Stafford got 130m guaranteed, Brady got 50m guaranteed for two years, and Mahomes got 140 million guaranteed. Those are just the last 3.

When did Mahomes win the SB or played in one ?
Brady always had deals that were far from his market value. It created the possibility to support him with good players.

Please read the whole thing and not answering out of context.

The owners have been complaining for years about the price of QB’s being out of control. And everyone says
“you gotta pay them”
That might come to a complete halt if Purdy or Hurts wins the Superbowl.

The smart GMs are spending these years where they aren’t paying a QB 30-40-50 million, building great and even perfect teams.

Building the trenches first, then the WR’s, Safeties, and DB’s. Then the RB’s and LB’s. They have stacked teams with cheap QB’s that they can have manage the games.

The QB basically has a four year tryout to become Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers or Burrow. If he’s not as good as one of those guys, they draft another one and keep building.

This is going to save the teams hundreds of millions on QB spending. It’s going to let them spread that money around, and drive that crazy QB market down to where it needs to be. You’re either a top 4 guy, or we are going with someone on a rookie deal.

This theory will take off like wildfire if Purdy or Hurts wins.
Hogwash! Owners care about one thing, money. A scant few go all out to win a championship.

I'm not trying to belittle your post. I agree with the concept 100%. If you played a football sim that did not involve money, you'd do exactly as you said. But that's not a reality in the NFL. What you describe is what an owner does if his goal is to win a championship above all else.

Yes. The problem is your owner is the GM and defacto Head Coach.

Lol! Even if he doesn’t win Hurts is most likely going to hold out for a 2nd contract and he will be paid. QBs who prove worthy are going to continue to get 2nd contract valued at around 25 to 30% of the teams total cap simply because finding one is a crapshoot at best. Believing otherwise is just naive!

So what will the Eagles do this offseason? Give Hurts the mega contract or let him go and use one of the first round picks on a new QB? If they choose to pay Hurts, they will have to shed some salary and won't be as good.

If Purdy or Hurts when the sb the contracts are going to get even more insane. The best thing would be for mahomes to win it

Facts are

Sam Howell is undefeated in the NFL
Dak hasn't won a divisional round playoff game yet while Purdy has.......
So we are back to QBs get the wins and losses?

They’re going to have to shed players regardless. 10 starters are FA. Three already count 29m against their cap and currently aren’t going to be on the roster and are all over 30. There’s no question Hurts will be resigned. Only question is will it be this year or next. Serious football people are talking about if Burrow will be the first 500m QB and y’all are living in a fairytale land where teams let a QB who was half the offense walk, while taking your chances with a draft pick!
