New TNT Series; Falling Skies

child soldiers are a very old sad story. Still exist in Africa. Not surprising at all that some would be very good.

There was one bit of dialogue that explained that... During the scene when the leader (old silver hair guy) was explaining the plan to run, dividing them into groups of 300... someone mentioned that the aliens were "picking up" groups of 400 or more. And, "what are we going to do when they start picking up groups of 300?" To which the leader said, "Then we will divide again, run, and survive." So, apparently the aliens were ignoring groups of people until they got to be a certain size. I dont think there was any explaination around how the aliens know how many people are in a group...

So they were ignoring the fires they had lit because they were in small groups, but then when the main characters needed help the aliens attacked small flairs set up on the ground. :) Not trying to be over critical but with all those alien air craft flying around no way would you make fires in the middle of a parking lot in at night. That would be suicide.

gotta remember this is hollywood; they are incredibly stupid about the military world. Have a friend who has been a technical adviser for a few shows and he says time and again that he tells them this is militarily speaking STUPID but they do it anyway because that looks 'cool' or 'enhances the dramatic effect'.

Well, they certainly didn't explain that. A camp fire can be anywhere from about 500F to 2000F, depending on updraft, fuel type, etc. A road flare burns at about 1400F. I think they lit 6 flares & placed them all close to each other. Maybe a small fire is not enough to get the aliens attention, but the combined intensity of the flares is? I don't know. It would be good if they explained that... otherwise, there is a big hole in the story.

After re-watching the 2-hr series premiere: This show is falling a formula of a recently successful show almost to a T: The Walking Dead.

Keeping kids occupied is one thing...planning birthday parties is ludicrous.

The main guy's teenage son and his girlfriend are fighting. As were some other young girls. As was the aforementioned 13 year old who freaked out over his dog, incidentally who was referred to as a "good fighter".

There was tension between the "fighters" and the "eaters" as the hot Doctor described them. In such a situation, everyone physically able to pick up a gun and shoot would do so. Able bodied men could hardly sit idly by - as some were - while little kids go in their stead to fight (except for perhaps the disabled and the extreme cowards). I'd like to think that the % of Americans who would sit on their can in such a situation would be much lower. The way the most of the people acted was that this was not a desperate situation at all...more like they were relocating because of flooding.
The party was when they stopped they did that to fill normal I mean come on a cup cake is not some big party. You may think it is stupid but it is how people cope and maintain hope. You know what in today's world there are a lot of people I think that would still not pick up a gun. The mentality is let the military or police due it protect us from everything.

This show is teetering on the ledge. I may give it another episode or two, but right now it's pretty ridiculous. All the issues I had with the premiere just got worse and they added to them.

200 civilians and they just couldn't find anyone other than a prisoner to make a decent meal? I'm sure that won't come back to bite them. :laugh2:

After the banter he had when he was alone with Tom week one, I had a feeling that he was going to end up one of the better soldiers before the season was out. Step one make him the cook so he can earn their trust. Plus they have Tom quoting him when talking about killing the alien, "you just have to get close enough".

I really love the main concept of the show, the execution it falling flat for me.

That is something they said since the beginning of the pilot. Seems like their motto or something. Not sure what the big deal is, the things don't seem that hard to kill, and I can't imagined that's really the first one they've ever captured.

I'm done. Instead I'm watching "The Protector" a new series on Lifetime. It has Agent Stahl from Sons Of Anarchy on it. Three episodes into it and I love it.

Ditto

I recorded the first 2 hour episode to watch later but after reading some of these reviews I just erased it.

Well with it being summer, NBA playoffs being over, and Game of Thrones now done for the first season, I have a lot of TV viewing hours to fill. But I need to find something other than this show.

Did you check out the premier of WILFRED?

It's on FX. Pretty good.

I've also tivoed Expedition Impossible, but haven't gotten to watch it yet.

So far, I have been disappointed. I am giving it another week to pick up, though.

On a side note, I just started watching Workaholics on Comedy Central. Low-brow, raunchy humor at its' finest.

I thought it picked up a little last week. I'll give it another whirl tonight I reckon.

I marathoned all the previous episodes today, as I usually do with new series (also marathoned the first 3 episodes of Game of Thrones today) I do it this way because you watch just the first episode of Falling Skies, you won't want to watch the rest I reckon. I feel it takes 3-4 episodes for the characters to start developing so I do it that way.

The best acting is done by the actor who plays "pope", no doubt. I hate that idiotic kid "Matty", he's only in it for feel good moments and most of them only piss me off, I guess it's different for parents who could imagine themselves in the situations, but for me it just seems like a waste of air time.
