The plays are great, but it certainly helps to have a guy like Dak who executes on third downs.

I LOVE how they're utilizing Lucky Whitehead. Got a nice little scheme centered around him, with the jet sweep, run off tackle, and fake sweep ---> screen.

We're going to fake that and exploit somebody.

But didn't it become a "thing" to drill the QB even if he handed the ball off on those zone reads, as a way to help eliminate the threat of the QB holding onto that ball before deciding whether to take it or give it to the RB? Maybe RGIII didn't take a lot of hits that way, but it does seem like an element that exists to put the QB in danger if you want to run this sort of play in excess.

That is correct that is why RG3 put his arms up after he hand off because he was being drilled by LBers and DE or Safeties.

This thread was about a new wrinkle meaning ONLY running this a couple of times a game in conjunction with screens, bootlegs, jet sweeps, and other misdirection plays. I never said i want them to run this like the skins or 49ers did that year.

It only takes a couple of times a game to be effective i was just pointing out how it was effective tonight

this thread title isn't referencing the focused anatomy of Martin's new huddle dance is it?

Ok here's a legit question:

There have been numerous threads that the Cowboys offense was too predictable and outdated ect, that linehan and Garretts offensive system was terrible. Is the system terrible or did Romo go away from the play calls too much? Why is the system looking so good with Dak running it. Even without Romo and Dez today, the offense looked very very good!

New wrinkle-not waiting until the play clock is down to one every time they snap the ball.

If nothing else I hope Romo sees he doesn't have to pre-snap read every twitch.

and his blocking has been stellar. he contained DE on a couple of outside runs so Tyron and Leary could pull

Ive said this in other threads, Dak opens up so much more because of the running threat he poses. On third downs, someone must spy or he picks up easy first downs. And by the goaline, threat of read option opens up running lanes for Zeke (and of course a read option TD for Dak today). This is the new NFL and you need a mobile QB to do it.

Dak did get plastered on one of those today.
That was more about being off balance but preserving your qb is why the read option and the NFL are a dangerous mix
Sprinkle in some read option is fine but making it a staple is a way to end your qb season

This can't be understated. They learned a lot from last year.
The talent is far superior at the QB position then last year ! I'm not trying to take anything away from the coaches but that needs to be stated as well

So much. It's like, in 2013 they didn't know anything and were coaches in-training. Then in 2014 they learned a lot, forgot most of it in 2015 when Tony got hurt and Matt Cassell came in and they had him throwing all those pick-sixes, and then they're learning so much again this season--from last year and now this year.

I don't think it's possible to overstate how far they've come. It's almost eerie.

Living in Skins country, I was privileged to hear analysis on that while Griffin was in DC. The read option plays kept him safe. He was hit the least on plays where he passed because they were designed to have him unload the bsll quickly or hand it off most of the time.

He actually got hurt when scrambling on designed pass plays or hanging in the pocket too long. Griffin does a poor job of protecting himself. His rookie year success was a fluke and was primarily due to Kyle Shanahan protecting his flaws and accentuating his positives in a very basic offense.

With that said, Dak is not a fluke because the Cowboys run a real offense with a very occasional RPO as a change up. Dak will be fine running these plays from time to time as long as he's decisive and slides at the end of his runs/gets out of bounds.

RG3 also didn't go through his progressions, which is why keeping him in the pocket never worked.

Dak does..

It's been a nice addition because the coaching staff has done a great job of not over using it or making it into some kind of staple of the offense. They're doing a solid job with it.
