How can his stats be inflated if he has only two more catches than Witten?
Don't you mean he is marketed better, has more yards and is more flashy?
No, his stats are inflated because the Giants throw the ball to him so much. They've thrown 116 passes to him; he's caught only 63 and leads NFC tight ends with six drops. We've thrown only 80 passes to Witten, but he's caught 61 of them -- a whopping 76.3 percent.
If we had thrown 116 passes to Witten at his current rate of catches, yards and touchdowns, he'd have 88 catches for 1,012 yards and seven touchdowns -- far better numbers than Shockey has, and similar numbers to what he had last year, when we threw to him almost as frequently as the Giants have thrown to Shockey this season. And if Witten had those numbers, he would be going to the Pro Bowl again, without a doubt.
