Newman may not be back

Well lets see: rumors so far have Ball, Sense, Jenkins, Newman, Spencer, James, Brooking, Spears all leaving on defense; and Colombo, Davis, Kosier, Gurode, Roy, Choice, MB, Bennett on O. With Buehler gone as Kicker.

Outside of Tony, Felix, Witten Miles and DEX with Ware and the Rat who is NOT rumored to be going?

With the likliehood of no deal before the draft; and therefore no FA before the draft, nothing will happen until after the draft at the earliest.

Look what happened the last time we cut a guy (Hamlin)without a pretty sure answer on the team.

Did you mean Dez?

Because last I heard we would consider trade offers for him as well.

I'd only want to see Newman released if it was right after we signed Asomugha.

I don't want him released because he's not worth his cap number and we THINK we have drafted his replacement.

When we booted Flozell last year, the team had seen plenty of Free to KNOW he would be an upgrade at LOT. And they were right.

He's a corner on the wrong side of 30, so no one should be shocked.

From the debates I've had on Newman there would be a few who would be shocked if he's not back next season.

There's at least a couple of fans here who aren't concerned about his age and think he played well last season.

For the most part, he shuts down his guy, but when he makes a mistake, they're backbreakers.

Despite his shortcomings, he'd get picked up pretty quickly.

Yeah he's still quality. Just not 8 mill a year quality.

I'd prefer to restructure if we can. The guy is still a good player, and corner back depth is something we greatly lack.

This.

But I doubt it since he can just get cut and be picked up by another team and collect 2 checks.

If Newman is indeed going to be cut, you can go ahead and pencil in Peterson into the depth chart.

The problem is we may not be able to cut some of these guys due to salary and escalation of pro rated signing bonuses. Unless that goes away we will keep two of the following three Roy W, Newman and Big we can not afford the cap hit to cut all three if this rules stays in place.

Big if cut will cost more on the cap then keeping him and paying him his cap charge next year salary + prorated signing bonus is smaller than the cap charge if we cut him.

Newman has 6 million left in accelerated signing bonus if he is cut I can not find more details on what his base salary is next year

I am digging for Roy Williams contract information as well

This also does not include Marion Barber and his outstanding Bonuses

So all these people wanting all these guys cut it just is not going to happen unless they change some salary cap rules with the new agreement

Yikes. Is that what he's making? He's still a very servicable corner. You can argue the best corner on this team. That's why I'd hate to lose him. But if it means getting Aso, I say good riddance.

Would it be crazy to suggest that even if we do get Aso, we still draft Peterson? I'd wheel n deal Jenkins if that were the case.

Those Barber, Newman and Flozell contracts really screwed this team over financially.

/caption obvious

He gets fooled a lot biting on simple moves it use to take double moves and an elite receiver to fool him now he's getting fooled by ordinary receivers.

Once a receiver gets a step on him he has no recovery speed.

Is he making 8 million or is that his cap charge next year that is the question not answered if he is a 8 million cap charge then we only save 2 million by cutting him

If he's gone i might FADE as a fan

Just come back under another username. :D

Rumors are a dime a dozen. Unless Jerruh steven or Jason is the source its not worth a dime even. With no FA or trades until a New CBA, and its unlikely to be done before the draft, it would be extremely stupid to cut anyone now.
Unless you are absolutley sure the answer is on the team NOW. As regards CBs we have Jenkins who stank it up this year; question is was that an aberration or was last year an aberation? Same with Scandrick. So to cut Newman NOW would be extremely STUPID.

1) That source is far far far from reliable
2) Letting Newman go would be almost exactly like letting flozell go last year:
- It makes the team worse in a position the need leadership, experience and bodies
- Newman's failures are a product of piss poor coaching and bad scheming
- If Newman does go he will be picked up and will most likely have a great season (assuming he is on a team with out a poodle for a secondary coach and a docile dough boy for a DC)

Mark my words, few of you did with the flozell case last year, lets see if you and Jerry can learn a lesson this year...your welcome ;)

Agreed but Jerrys ego will get in the way of that one.

Roy Williams cost Jerry a #1 and a #3 less than 3 years ago. When you pay that price you can't just give up on the player after a season and a half.

It's different if you pick them up in free agency but when you give up a couple of premium draft picks you have to play it out for awhile and try and get as much out of that player as you can.

I think Roy is here to stay. You got it exactly right.

He's still a very servicable option as a WR. Yeah he's making too much. Whatever. You don't save alot by cutting him. Just ride this wave out...
