If Newman can shut down (and shut up) Plax on the national stage there will be plenty who will stand up and take notice.

If Newman would have caught that INT on Thanksgiving last year against the Broncos and took it to the house after Champ did we would have won the game and his status would have been cemented IMO.

Because of his size we might see Henry on Burress more.

I think that you MAY see that match up in the redzone but if Newman wants to be considered a shutdown corner then he'll have to cover the other teams best WR anywhere he lines up.

Remember when Plax beat him on that comeback in the endzone when Pitt played Dallas a few years ago?

I probably shouldn't speak for him but I think that Newman wants this assignment more than any other he's ever had.

As far as talent, Newman may have more of it than anyone on this team. Now it's time to show the rest of the football world.

It should be interesting. Rumor has it that Roy might be hanging around Burress also.

No team does that. I believe Shawn Springs covered the #1 receiver more than anyone in the league last year, and he was at about 60% of the time. Newman will play his side, and the Giants will try to get matchup problems. The only time we've really had Newman shadow a receiver is when the other team has a guy that really warrants that consideration. Plaxico isn't that guy. Heck, Aaron Glenn shut him down last year.

People say that every week he plays a big name WR, lol. His status is already where it's gonna be by his merits on the field. Those that know, know. The only way he's gonna get more credit, since he doesn't self-promote, is if Pacells drops more No-TD allowed nuggets and the media picks up on it and broadcasts it.

Break it down and Newman comes out on top.

Correct me if I am wrong but Newman has Champ beat in the stats. I am pretty sure there was an in depth discussion and Newman was a lot better on paper.

Champ does't play the run as well as Newman. Champ also bites on routes all the time. Remember the Denver game last year when Key slipped behind him?
Statistically, I think Bailey is having a better year unless Adam can prove otherwise with more detail statistics of passes thrown to, situational passing, etc.

As of today:
Solo Tackles:
Bailey - 52
Newman - 35

Interceptions:
Bailey - 5
Newman - 1

Passes defended:
Bailey - 16
Newman - 9
This doesn't mean that Bailey is the better corner, but he has better stats than Newman right now.

I think Roy is still pissed about the "referee pass interference" that got the Giants that long TD last time and will look to put the hurt on Plexi-glass.

Why are people still not talking about merriman juicing.......?

Cuz the entire world knows 90% of the NFL is on juice ... but Merriman was just stupid enough to get caught.

Old news. No one cares.

Will Merriman be noticably smaller?

I knew a guy who wrestled in college and was huge. Turns out he took steroids. I saw him a couple years later and he was unrecognizable he had loss so much body mass.

If Merriman has been off the juice for a couple months, will it have a noticable effect?

Newman still needs that signature INT return for a TD to open more eyes.... He's still a heck of a CB!

It sure would be a good day for that today wouldn't it 3spt:starspin 80!

sorry even though im a cowboy homer, champ bailey is slightly better i think....*ducks and runs*

Even if that is true which it may very well be I think Newman is waaaaaaaay better at this point in his career than Bailey was.

Champ didn't get good until about 2 1/2 years ago.

He was HORRIBLE in Washington. I'll give him his props now though.
