Newman is plain garbage now.

All you Newman lovers (apologists) are running out of excuses for this lousy player. Try to defend his garbage play today. Nice tackle on the Saints RB on that 18 yd gain. Did you see Terri put his head down, close his eyes, and reach for the RB's ankles. Classic Newman.

Newman has been average most of his career. He is the most overrated CB out there. He has been overrated and overpaid for several years now.

I have been ripping this idiot for several years now. Newman stinks.

There is no way on earth that this sorry excuse for a CB should be on the team next year. He sucks. Now that the season is all but officially over, sit Newman and bring up Teddy Williams from the practice squad and let him split time with McCann in place of Newman.

It is your call Red. Your HC opportunity is squat with Newman out there.

that go route that he got smoked on at the end of the game was..pathetic. He was beat by 6 yards: no more excuses for this guy. He should be gone next year or at least take a pay cut and be a backup. Just not very good anymore and hasn't been for a while now.

Newman isnt now and never was close to being a shutdown nfl corner. On a great day he is merely above average, but his great days are far and few between.

Yeah, let's see other corners do half as well as he has on a bum ankle and bruised ribs.

He doesn't stink, but he's overrated. A top flight cornerback should not have been faked on that route at that moment in the game for a 55 yard bomb when you have to a force a team with two minutes left to effectively go over 80 yards.

It ain't his ankle. It ain't his bruised ribs. He plain sucks!!!

Newman is not a shutdown CB. Never has been. And now he is an overrated, overpaid garbage CB who is afraid to tackle. And he is plain stupid!

Keep on making excuses for him, though. Some day you will wake up.

The better question should be when is Newman ever not injured?

Well we'll have to just start stacking great days on great days..

haha, no but seriously my take on Newman.

You can read my post history or ask some of the Newman huggers around here, but i am far from a Newman apoligist. I've held the same stance on him for a long time now though, and this game just reinforces my belief.

Newman is a solid corner. Covers well most of the time, tackles well most of the time.. however he is madly inconsistant and never seems to make plays even when he is on top of the receiver.

Perfect example.. end of the game, knocked the ball out of a receivers hands to make a good play, then right after that gets toasted for a huge gain. That's who Newman is, and we shouldn't expect anything more or less.

I'd say that was a very fair assessment and uses great examples to support his position.

Yeah, but he is ALWAYS hurt. So you can't use the injury excuse with him. He is probably the most overrated speed guy in the nfl. Anyone remember against the bills he picked off that pass and lee evans chased him down like he was running in wet cement. Saw the same thing today when he was completely blown by on that third down play

Regarding the play Newman was burned by Meachem at the end, am I the only one that believes Balll was supposed to help him over the top?

You don't leave your corners in man coverage when your ahead by four and the opposing team has to march 90 yards to win the game.

I believe that Ball was to blame on that particular play.

Not a Newman "hugger" or hater. Just a knowledgable football fan.

I said this to a family member. On the replay Ball was helping Brookings who had great coverage on whoever he was guarding. With our safeties its like they don't even look at the quarterback at all. Its just they're in their own little world.

and this is news to you the whole secondary stinks

It's incredible how many people blame our corners when our safeties are garbage..

If we're blaming Newman on getting beat deep, where was the safety?

A lot of the time, our CBs are playing man to man with no safety help. You can only expect so much when the QB is Brees and he has several legit threats as WR.

Ball needs to go. If you're a corner and Ball is your safety up top, you're screwed.

Sensabaugh played ok, but it wasn't stellar play. I think he would be a lot better if we had a legit FS to cover deep and allow him to follow receivers on the field (Like Roy when Woodson was here).

Either way, we need some help back there.

Our safeties havn't helped all season. I agree. It's unfair to pinpoint just the CB's.

On the TD Jenkins gave up right after the Newman bomb, Sensi steps up and gives the WR an easy catch. Jenkins was in pretty good position but thats a tough play to stop when the safety gives the middle of the end zone up for no reason.

For all you people who want to blame someone else, stop making excuses for a guy you all think is a great corner.

IMO, he was supposed to be straight up on his man. The safety looked like he was supposed to be covering the middle of the field there and Newman just got beat. Not every play has the safeties helping over the top for both the CB's.

Either way you could tell after the play that it was Newman's fault, as all he could do was hang his head. He knew he blew it imo. Don't make excuses for him time and time again, he should be better than that at this point in his career.
