He doesn't push off on the 2nd TD and it doesn't give a great view of the first one, but by looking at where Newman is when the ball is thrown it doesn't look like there was a push. Randy Moss is one of the best I've ever seen at discreetly pushing off though.

I have read somewhere that Moss was routinely called for pushing off when he was with Oakland...

Isnt this also the game where Roy put Moss on the turf away from the play and then sat on him?

It wasn't really a fight, more like a tussle. Moss had been running his mouth the whole game, and Newman had pretty much shut him down up until that point. Newman was playing off of Moss and not allowing him to get deep. Moss was the one that was frustrated, and if I remember correctly, the scuffle occurred after Moss caught a pass underneath near the endzone and said something to Newman. Newman then slammed Moss to the ground and was on top of him and Moss tried to push him off. That was pretty much it. I don't even think a flag was thrown.

Actually, I thought that happened totally away from the play... I thought the Vikes threw or ran to the other side of the field, Moss and TN were pushing each other like always happens between WR and CB, and TN used the opportunity to jump all over Moss...

I could be totally wrong, though. :)

I think you're right about there being no flag, though. IIRC this wasn't even a big deal as the actual game was going on.

It wasn't even a tussle. On that play (first-and-goal from the 3), the Vikings wanted to run a quick fade to Moss, but he stumbled and fell down. Culpepper was about to throw it, but when he saw Moss fall, he pulled the ball down and scrambled out of the pocket to his left (the other side of the field). When Newman saw Culpepper scramble, he jumped on Moss and kept pushing him down to keep him from getting up (which is perfectly legal once the quarterback leaves the pocket). Moss, though, didn't appreciate it and started pushing back and Newman. Then the refs came over, and Newman put his hands up, stood up and let Moss get up.

That's it. There were no punches thrown, and it had nothing to do with Newman being frustrated or anything.

On the next play, Moss pushed off, caught a hook at the goal line and got tackled out by the 2-yard line, but the ball had broken the plane of the goal when he caught it.

Moss finished that game with two catches for 4 yards against Newman -- both of them were touchdowns (3 yards, 1 yard). Moss also had a 13-yard catch against Pete Hunter and a 10-yard catch against Hunter and Tony Dixon.

I knew that one of those TDs was questionable due to a blatant push-off (thanx to 88 we Dallas fans should recognize one when we see it ;) )!

Adam, is there any chance you can tell us what Newman's worst games have been? Like a top 5 maybe? Thanks.

Wasn't one of them that Seattle game in his second year when he gave up lots of short slants when placed in 1-on-1 situations.

He may have also had a bad against GB that year.

Maybe that playoff game against Carolina in his rookie year.

It is actually hard to really remember him having many poor performances. He hardly ever gets beat for anything more than 10-yard completions.

The Seattle game in '04 he got torched. He struggled against Pittsburgh in week 6 and the Skins in week 3. I'm also thinking of the game against the Saints at the end of the 2003 season.

I think the injury had something to do with those struggles (pass rush wasn't good either), but it seemed like the Cowboys figured out how to use him better by having him play tight on the receiver more often and that seemed to do the trick.

That's alright.

I remember TNew running down Moss in Oakland from like 15 yards behind and stopping a TD.

If you catch Randy Moss from behind, you are faster than fast.

Newman was pretty good then despite a knee injury. I think that was the only game he has ever given up 2 TDs in- not sure.
2005 up through the Seattle game was when he had his worst time- that knee injury was a lot worse then people realized at the time. He had to favor it and it affected his quickness. I think TNew has given up less then 8 TD his entire career I believe. I am pretty sure that he has fewer TDs in the last 5 seasons then any other starting CB.
