Played a great game...shutting down TJ, especially on little deep ball showing his great vert almost picking it off

and that nasty hit in Julius Jones for the fumble....even my homeboy said that was a great hit and Newman was playing good, and hes a cowboy hater in a way

solid games newman is putting up, looks like hes back in old form

I agree. I think Newman played a very good game as did the secondary in general including Hamlin.

That wasn't Julius, that was Forsett (sp).

They better be on their toes this week.

Philly will be looking for the big play all game. Its time for the secondary to really step up.

I love Newman matched up on a speed receiver but im scared of how Hamlin may hesitate and let someone get by him in zone coverage.

If we stop the big play we stop Philly.

He was beat by Housh for what should have been a TD but it was a bad throw.

I don't know, I still think Newman is a great corner but he just looks a step slow this year.

He doesnt look slower to me. Just more indecisive.

Could be, but that leads to being a step slow.

There is no such thing in football.

True...but in terms of talking about Newman, he was beat on the play.

He is only beat if the pass is completed. If my aunt had a pair she would be my uncle. The slippery slope has to stop some where, why not stop it at the beginning?

Newmans' problem is that he tends to plays to the level of his competition, well this is the NFL and every WR can burn any CB that merely plays to the level of their opponent.

For some reason he is becomming alot more accountable in coverage which is huge but it's impossible to ignore a CB making well timed exciting big hard hits that cause turnovers.

Tackling fundamentals as a whole has improved this Defense dramatically.

When Newman is on, he had this knack for getting the guy he is covering really frustrated. When I saw TJ getting po'ed on the sideline, I knew he would be very quiet for the rest of the game

Eh, just because the result wasn't bad, doesn't mean the play wasn't. Sometimes you get lucky.

Are you going to just ignore Patrick Crayton's muffed punt just because he recovered it?

It's attention to detail, or lack thereof, that has hurt this team in the last three years.

He also missed a tackle that would have prevented a 1st down on a 3d down play:bang2:

Luck is vital to success in football. This is especially true in the NFL for obvious reasons. There is an old adage most in football can agree on, "I rather be lucky then good".

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one because my definition of getting beat is diametrically opposite to your definition. In my opinion, football is an results oriented business. Almost, close, if, ands, and buts, need not apply.

Through out a game, players blow assignments, get beat, all over the field but if the opposing team doesn't capitalize then it is all for naught.

True. I would add sometimes the other guy just makes a fine play after all there are paid professionals on the other side of the line. I thought Hasslebacks 1st TD was just the perfect pass with perfect timing and even though Scandrick was in a good position the Hawks made a very fine play. It happens in the NFL. :laugh2:

Not really. He and Ken Hamlin are the weak points in the defense right now. If he plays like this in Philly next week, they'll score 30+.
