He's, what, 31 now? Has had several leg-oriented injuries over the years?

Yeah, his speed probably isn't what it once was.

Please do not be a negative nancy. We won. Newman shut down Steve Smith.

Be a positive pansy!

without causing a riot.

I will say this. I dont think he is healthy. He was laying on his back on the sideline stretching his hip area when the offense had the ball a couple of times and last week I saw him clutching his groin after a few tackles.

I really dont think he is healthy.

I do know it was good to have him back. He had 3 straight bad games and seemed way out of character for him.

Newman seems to rise to the level of his opponents. Wade needs to find a way to get that type of play from him week in and week out.

Let's not throw the word "great" around. He had over the top help all night on Smith and his tackling was horrendous.

He had a good game but can improve and I bet if you asked him he would say the same thing.

Put him in a 100-meter race, and I'd bet he'd still beat almost every player in the league.

The point of playing cornerback isn't to outrun your man, it's to stay right with him -- and you have no idea where he's going. It's not like you can just take off sprinting full-speed straight ahead.

great point... Newman is kinda slow for being world class! Maybe they should time him in full gear?

He was obviously gassed towards the end so if you're talking about the play on the int, yeah he didn't look as fast as he shoud be. Kind of like the return on the Buffalo int in 07.

But if you wanna know what his speed is about, watch the play in the last game where he sopped Manningham short on a 3rd down play on a crossing route. That was true speed right there.

Newman ran a 10.29 100m in college which is pretty impressive, that will get you to the Olympics for a lot of countries. He might have lost a step with age but he's still pretty fast

Hmm, that's debatable because he's playing in a defensive role.

He's fast...and an injury prone 31 year old, he's lost a bit of a step...maybe we should just have him run down the field on every play as fast as he can as opposed to playing defense so he can prove that world class speed ;)

The injuries and age are slowly (no pun intended) starting to catch up with him.

reason i bring this up, on the interception he got chased down pretty easily by steve smith even though tnew has some forward momentum while smith was at a dead stand still maybe even still leaning the other way. tnew also seems to get beat pretty easily deep on simple fly patterns lately. in any case, great win that we definitely had to have, dont take my comments for more then they are worth they're just observations that no one has seemed to have brought up. go cowboys!

Someday I'm going to get out my VCR and find my tape of him running down Moss in Oakland. Now that was awesome

(Oh, and it's a 10.20 100m and 6.62 60m... But who's counting?)

Really though, like theebs said, I don't think he looked completely healthy. But who cares, he was out there and got it done.

That is actually an unbelievable point and something I have never though of before...He does seem to me to do a nice job on some of you're "better" recievers. But i've seen him get eaten alive by the no-names. Goes to show that the talent level of NFL recievers is pretty widespread these days. And players corner is not an easy job.

I just dont think He knows how to run with a ball in his hands...He looks sloppy and usually gets caught from behind.

However without a ball He seems much faster...Just my view on his speed.

OMG I can't understand how people can complain about his play

he usually takes they other teams number one reciever

then tonight he I wonder how many yards he actually ran covering Steve Smith

then you complain about him being gassed after that TD

and remember that he does not know where the wide reciever is going - that just adds to a guy being gassed

IMO he is one of the best CB's in the game
