Let's not throw the word "great" around. He had over the top help all night on Smith and his tackling was horrendous.

He had a good game but can improve and I bet if you asked him he would say the same thing.
No kidding.....

REMEMBER that buf game was I beileve his first back from the foot/groin. He was no where near top speed there. You also have to remember theres not a big difference between 4.3 and 4.6. When a 4.3 guy somewhat gets winded and a 4.6 guy has most of his wind, where does that .3 tenths go in a foot race? I know Jamer Charles the track star got ran down from behind in KC last year after a 70 yard run. I think he was one of the fastest players coming out of his draft. Lots to consider too. These players dont run in pads so what does that do to their times. Plus, a player might not lose speed in pads where another one does.

He was obviously gassed towards the end so if you're talking about the play on the int, yeah he didn't look as fast as he shoud be. Kind of like the return on the Buffalo int in 07.

Newman was injured that game as well. And it took over half the field for Lee Evans to chase him down.

Someone just needs to post video of T-New chasing down Moss to end this thread.

Deion Sanders in his prime even if he would have been playing in a tanktop and shorts would have received the benefit of over the top help from time to time. Isn't that the point? Anyone see that TD pass that Jamarcus Russell threw against the chargers in week 1 on like 3rd and 20? That is one of the best examples I have ever seen in my life of a safety completely forgetting what the hell he should be doing...And Antonio Cromartie is one hell of a fast guy on corner.

Someday I'm going to get out my VCR and find my tape of him running down Moss in Oakland. Now that was awesome

(Oh, and it's a 10.20 100m and 6.62 60m... But who's counting?)

Really though, like theebs said, I don't think he looked completely healthy. But who cares, he was out there and got it done.
Does anyone have a link to that? I wanna see it again.

I've never seen it on Youtube or anywhere else...

But I really will dig out the tape and upload it sometime.

Guess I'll need to start making slow poke Newman threads periodically to keep you on it:cool:

Put him in a 100-meter race, and I'd bet he'd still beat almost every player in the league.

The point of playing cornerback isn't to outrun your man, it's to stay right with him -- and you have no idea where he's going. It's not like you can just take off sprinting full-speed straight ahead.

lol not to disagree with you but i can think of a few lol but you did say almost.

I will say this. I dont think he is healthy. He was laying on his back on the sideline stretching his hip area when the offense had the ball a couple of times and last week I saw him clutching his groin after a few tackles.

I really dont think he is healthy.

I do know it was good to have him back. He had 3 straight bad games and seemed way out of character for him.

i agree he is not 100% and i'll tell you why. he has something wrong in either his hips or his groin, he isnt getting his hips around to turn and like we are used to and it is really clear to me because on the int. he had next to no drive/acceleration in his first 2/3 steps which isnt typical for ham/quad/calf injurys that arent serious but could be indicative of groin/foot/glute and stiffness in the ball and socket of the hips or the tendons in that area.

i dont think it is the foot though because he would prolly favor it slightly once in a while which i havent noticed

...he isn't telling. That's one thing about Newman is he has shown to be professional about his physical state.

Eventually all NFL players are dinged up during the season. One has to wrok through much of the bumps and bruises.

He's, what, 31 now? Has had several leg-oriented injuries over the years?

Yeah, his speed probably isn't what it once was.

newman had a great game but im always told newman has world class speed but i just dont see it. dont get me wrong he fast but nothing like many cowboy fans seem to claim.

I wouldn't say Newman had a great game he missed some tackles. His speed was in question a couple of yeas ago when he picked off a pass against Buffalo and got chased down rather quickly by Lee Evens and an RB. I could see Evens catching him but not an RB. Newman was well ahead of both of them and got run down. Last night he barely got to the endzone and was gassed. He needed oxygen after the play. lol Newman isn't that fast anymore that's why receivers have been beating him.

I don't know what game alot of you people watch? Watch the play again, Smith is allready running back to Newman, when he is catching the ball, so of course Smith is going to catch him.

No he didn't.

Steve Smith was shut down. Newman did not do that by himself, but he still played a large part in Smith being ineffective. I actually will consider Newman to be locked in single coverage on Smith because Hamlin is pretty useless in coverage.

Dallas has faced Steve Smith 6 times in the regular season. In those 6 game he has 28 receptions, 352 yards, 12.6 avg and 1 TD.

I thought Newman looked fast on the pick 6 play. It is not as if Steve Smith is slow. That guy is pretty fast, too.

I love me some TNew, but I agree that he is not completely healthy. He just doesn't look 100% like himself so far.

I know which play you were talking about. Game was in Oakland. 'Boys lost, but that was the highlight of the game.

Newman seemingly came from the other side of the field and caught Moss at around the 5 yd line.

I was glad to see how Wade used Newman and the safety to keep Smith in check. He had what 4 catches for 38 yards on the night?

I think he still runs a 4.5 or so.....good enough. He blanketed Smith last night......Smith is awesome IMO, but TN has always covered him better than anyone in the league. Props to TNEw.

With help, without help, in between on help, healthy, not healthy all that matters is that this week Newman got the job done and got it done well.
