Same Old Sorry Rams

Published September 8, 2008 Cowboys , NFL , Tony Romo 0 Comments

The Cowboys get to play the Sorry St. Louis Rams in October on the road. My gosh, they just laid down on Sunday to open the season in Philly.

The Eagles had 500 yards of offense and they were missing their top two wide receivers.

Of course they got sliced and diced by Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “I’ve been covering NFL games since 1982, and I’ve never seen such a carefree locker room in the aftermath of such a humiliating defeat.

A performance like this should have ignited this team’s pride and professionalism. But the Rams didn’t fight during the game, and they were hardly fighting mad after the game.

Gee, wasn’t that swell to see running back Steven Jackson chuckling and yapping with the Eagles on the field after the game?

Symbolic message: This was just another payday for the same old Rams.

And that attitude is unacceptable. Linehan and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett didn’t have their men ready to play, and the highly anticipated rollout of offensive coordinator Al Saunders’ new attack was a bust.

It's not like they've been bad for decades, like Detroit. How can you be the "same old sorry Rams" if you were the "Greatest Show on Turf" less than 10 years ago?

I agree. There are just sorry dating back to last season.

It is funny(not comically) that Martz was the blame for the Rams QBs always getting sacked, but he has been gone for years now and the Rams give up even more sacks now.

I was thinking the same thing. To me "same old" is Lions, Cardinals, etc.

I think if this article was about a similar Cowboys performance you'd be taking up the martyr's banner and lauding the author who is just being a realist.

If I'm not mistaken someone from the 49'ers said that about the Rams years ago. The Rams were undefeated and the Niners came in and whipped them, then a niner player said, 'same ole sorry rams' that to the cameras while standing on the sidelines (with an expletive before rams). Or not.

:laugh2:

alot of the problem with the D is Jim Haslett. why his career was revived in St. Louis is anybodies guess.

Spot on about not being mad though. I'd be looking for some new guys.

Yes, the year was 1995. The Rams - who hadn't won more than 6 games in each of the previous 4 seasons - were a surprise 5-1 team hosting the 49ers. The Niners humiliated them, jumping to a 14-0 lead, and eventually running up the score to 44-3 before allowing a garbage time TD to Jesse Hester to make the final score 44-10. The Rams went on to win just two more games the rest of the way.

Meh-even Jim Johnson couldn't save their pathetic D.

Jim Haslett was a very good DC in Pitt in the 90's-IOW, it all depends on your personnel.
