Parcells did improve our talent level, but the next coach needs to bring our swagger back.

I honestly think we have more talent than our 9-7 record indicates, but we lack the confidence and swagger needed to go into a game and challenge the other team man-to-man.

I think with the talent that Parcells has brought in, it is important that our next coach instill confidence and swagger.

Stop playing the old school "play not to lose", trying to win 13-10 all of the time and just attack on offense and defense.

I would rather lose by attacking and failing than lose by sitting around waiting for the game to end and see if we have more points than the other team.

Had we attacked the Seahawks, we would have been up 14 pts and running out the clock instead of attempting a FG and hoping our Defense could stop them from a game-winning FG.

Our next coach needs to bring swagger with him.

I will be honest Hos, I don't know enough about Rivera to say that he is the man, but I do know enough to realize that a DC that runs that defense, and a coach that is in the Super Bowl will be brimming with confidence and swagger.

My one beef with Bill is that he didn't bring that.

But in thinking about that I think that some of the blame should fall on the one guy on D who really should have been our "swagger guy" - I think Bill waited and waited and waited for Roy to step up and give the D an identity. But he never did.

Not trying to start any sort of argument here -- but the next guy needs to find a way to motivate #31 a bit better.

How about beating him with a sock full of bars of soap ?

It worked in "Full Metal Jacket" :laugh2: :laugh2:

I agree abs, Roy needs to get into it, where's the Roy who picked off an errant Bruce Gradtkowski throw, ran down the sidelines, and tried to run over a Tampa player attempting to tackle him?

I think we should hire Irvin as HC and bring on his old teammates to fill the other positions.

I have nothing against Rivera at all. He fits a lot of what I want. He's young, aggressive, and eager to prove. That to me is a recipe for a good meal.

The other serious candidates IMO are Wade Phillips & Norv. The only way I am interested in WP is if he brings Greg Manusky with him and goes after a young OC (like Jason Garrett) as well. He's 60 years old has 2 failed stints as a HC. I have nothing against him, but I can't say I'd be excited unless the young assistants are part of the package. I'd like a guy who is younger.

I think Norv could be a very serious candidate. I only want him if he brings Mike Singletary with him to be the DC.

See, in those two guys as HC I am forced to look down the road as well.

I can't say that with Rivera. I'd love to see him come here and bring a young eager staff with him. As much as I'd love to get Cowher here, I just don't see it happening. This very well may be the next best solution.

I do understand what Aikman is saying about we need an offensive minded coach. He makes a very valid point. Norv just scares me and so does any other Offensive minded guy.

You know Ab, I think this is what surprised and frustrated me most about Parcells era here. It wasn't that way with the Giants at all. Players were allowed to be fiery and aggressive. It worked. I don't understand why he was so insistent to keep the leash so tight.

I'm leaning towards wanting Grimm as HC. He understands the NFCEast and the football needed to win it. Get an OLine and run the ball. We need to beat the Eagles, Giants and Commanders season after season to be successful.

Well stated. I can agree 100%.

Coach Parcells vastly improved our talent level however teams are a reflection of their Coach. The younger Coach Parcells was much more animated and aggressive look at his Giants days, those teams played the same way their Coach acted. In Dallas we got a more reserved Coach and the team played that way, no passion in big games.

The next Coach has to have a swagger and fire. The young talent on this team would take to it immediately.

Was it the leash? Or was it that Bill's "I'm too old to deal with thugs" attitude really got in the way?

We drafted what appeared to be some fine young men in Julius, Newman, Ware, Burnett, etc. All guys who were solid citizens and reportedly high character players in the draft analyses. Sounds like the chemistry experiment didn't go as well as it should have.

Even with the Giants though, Parcells said he attempted to rein in LT. He said he kept telling LT we don't have that play in the playbook (speaking of what's now called the blitz). LT basically told BP he better put it in the playbook then because he was going to keep doing it.

If it had been up to BP's initial impulse, LT would not have had the career he did.

This makes Gruden the ideal candidate.

I agree.

Furthermore.... we need a relatively unknown that has something to prove. IMO.

We are not nasty.
We are not hungry.
We dont have that killer instinct.
We need those things.

A young unknown that he a chip on his shoulder already would be great.
