Why? Why would anyone want Ditka to coach a team that they actually root for? Keep Ditka far, far away from my team. He was a disaster in Chicago after Ryan left, he was a disaster in New Orleans, and he'd be a disaster here.
I mean come on, the man traded his WHOLE draft for Ricky Williams. Are you kidding me? Someone out there actually wants this guy?
It's Zimmer by the way. I know he's only been around for a decade, so it's hard to remember his name and all.
Right, that 70-41 record after the departure of Buddy Ryan is just atrocious.
From Wikipedia about his time COACHING in Dallas:
Ditka spent nine seasons as an assistant coach with the Cowboys. During his tenure, the Cowboys made the playoffs eight times, won six division titles and three NFC Championships, including the one preceding their Super Bowl victory in 1977.
Of the success he doesn't attribute directly to himself, Hollywood Henderson, who was LT before there was an LT, has always considered Ditka an innovator and the best coach Landry ever had under him. And he has not only caught a TD in a Super Bowl FOR the Cowboys but he led arguably the best football team of all time. He's got the cred and he knows how to win.
He considers his years in New Orleans the three worst years of his life for good reason. You make mistakes, learn and move on. He has clearly done that. If he is willing to return to the football field I'd like to see him take a smaller role with the Cowboys and eventually take the HC job for himself. If not, oh well, but he is as qualified as any available (and Weis is not, right now) coaching candidate on the market.
