What do you think about Iron Mike Ditka coming to town and coach Dallas after BP leaves?
He could retain Zimmerman and still apply the same discilpline BP has started.

He certainly has the history here to make it happen. I'd love to see it. Sorry Joe A, but Hurricane Ditka was the best (and most ruthless) special teams coach Dallas has ever seen.

Why? Why would anyone want Ditka to coach a team that they actually root for? Keep Ditka far, far away from my team. He was a disaster in Chicago after Ryan left, he was a disaster in New Orleans, and he'd be a disaster here.

I mean come on, the man traded his WHOLE draft for Ricky Williams. Are you kidding me? Someone out there actually wants this guy?

It's Zimmer by the way. I know he's only been around for a decade, so it's hard to remember his name and all.

Problem is they both are likely to have jobs when we are looking for a coach.

I think all this speculation is a bit early anyway.

Right, that 70-41 record after the departure of Buddy Ryan is just atrocious.

From Wikipedia about his time COACHING in Dallas:

Ditka spent nine seasons as an assistant coach with the Cowboys. During his tenure, the Cowboys made the playoffs eight times, won six division titles and three NFC Championships, including the one preceding their Super Bowl victory in 1977.

Of the success he doesn't attribute directly to himself, Hollywood Henderson, who was LT before there was an LT, has always considered Ditka an innovator and the best coach Landry ever had under him. And he has not only caught a TD in a Super Bowl FOR the Cowboys but he led arguably the best football team of all time. He's got the cred and he knows how to win.

He considers his years in New Orleans the three worst years of his life for good reason. You make mistakes, learn and move on. He has clearly done that. If he is willing to return to the football field I'd like to see him take a smaller role with the Cowboys and eventually take the HC job for himself. If not, oh well, but he is as qualified as any available (and Weis is not, right now) coaching candidate on the market.

I don't see BB leaving the Pats anytime soon, so Weiss is a possibility here. He would be on my short list.

We could say the same about our QB situation, but it doesn't stop the gazillion threads about our backup QBs... It's a legit question to have with the type of coach we have. He could decide after the "parade" that he's done. And then what?

That said, I don't think Ditka wants to be a candidate for anything other than the chair on NFL Sunday Countdown...

My preference would be a former HC. I wouldn't be opposed to Fisher. But he'd be the only candidate that I'd be ok with from the retread ranks.

Yeah, and that wasn't done with Buddy Ryan's defense and phenomenal players.

Tell me, what's he done since that well dried up?

Chuck Noll had a huge amount of success up until 25 years ago...wonder if he's available?

And spare me what Ditka did with Dallas as an assistant 30 years ago. It's beyond irrelevant.

Fisher is not a 3-4 guy though. He's a defensive coach from the Buddy Ryan school. I don't think he'd be a fit given Jerry's statement that we're married to our defensive scheme. I like him though.

Nah we really love him. All that "Groz lives" stuff and "village idiot" stuff is just for fun.

I agree that we need to get a young energetic coach in here that will be around for a couple of decades. I would have liked Mangini had he stayed with the Pats a couple more years instead of going to the Jets.

I'm also not dead set against Zimmer. I think he is a fine coach and could step into the job with minimal disruption to the team and existing coaching staff. He could keep things going in the same direction we've been building toward.

I see no way that Ditka would ever want to return to coaching. ANd remember that NO has been a graveyard for Coaches. the Benson factor.

Don't recall Jerry ever saying that. If you find the quote, then I'll believe it. He may have said he's out of the FB business, but he's never said that the 3-4 was going to stick no matter what. I believe several people on here have posted that we have the personnel to run both. So I don't think the 3-4 is a lock just because that's what the 'boys are running now.
