...But for folks to push the narrative that Prescott's INT woes overshadowed all the great work he did under center is erroneous. He led the league's most prolific offense after he returned from injury and threw 23 touchdowns in 12 games. A big knock on Prescott since he became the starter has his been his deep ball accuracy, or lack thereof. Well, last season he ranked among the league's top deep-passing quarterbacks, according to Next Gen Stats.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott among NFL's best deep passers in 2022

Per Next Gen Stats, Prescott went 14-of-35 for 484 yards and five touchdowns to one interception on deep passes (115.2 passer rating), which are regarded as passes that travel 20-plus air yards. He completed 40% of his deep passes and had a 29.7% deep xComp, which is a QB's average "completion probability" that constitutes the level of difficulty of a set of passes.

Further, Prescott produced a deep completion percentage above expectation of +10.3% -- the difference between a QB's completion percentage and expected completion percentage -- and had a deep passing score of 99. That score not only cracked the top 10, but checked in at No. 4, higher than Josh Allen (No. 10), Joe Burrow (No. 9) and Patrick Mahomes (No. 6).

Here's a telling nugget from NFL Media's Nick Shook:"If you need one metric that illustrates a lack of downfield effectiveness from Dallas' passing game as a whole, look at Prescott's expected completion percentage on deep attempts, which fell short of 30. This suggests the Cowboys' lack of firepower helped opposing defenses limit Dallas' downfield opportunities."

Another disadvantage Prescott had to overcome throwing deep balls? CeeDee Lamb was the only Cowboys receiver who caught more than two deep passes. Despite that, Dak had the third-highest completion rate over expected. With the speedy Brandin Cooks, who's averaged 13.7 yards per reception in his career, joining the receiver room, and a rejuvenated and healthy Michael Gallup primed for a bounce-back season, it's not crazy to think Prescott could make a sizable jump in these rankings next season...

Every off season all these articles are written how Prescott is amazing just look at the stats.

I've said this before, if Prescott leads the NFL in all passing categories and is voted MVP and Dallas loses in the playoffs because the offense under performs, no one will give two sheets about his numbers. That's where we are going into year eight. Put up or shut up. It's that simple.

Enjoy your stats.

It's easy to knock #4 because of the lack of playoff success. And it's frankly not all that surprising because playoff appearances are such a small number of opportunities, and if it takes 6, 7, 8 of those to finally get the right mix of everyone being healthy, and the light going on for key players, well that would already explain what we have seen the past ~7 years.

If Prescott did not get injured last season, and if the WR situation wasn't the mess it was, does Dallas get past SF and go to the NFCCG?

- - -

This year, the WR situation really should be much better: the addition of Cooks, and a fully-recovered Gallup. A QB with hopefully no injuries. A better/healthier O-Line. More clarity at RB, maybe? A less complex offensive scheme? Could be the offense is significantly better this year.

And the D? That sure looks like it could be pretty stout this year - in the conversation for league-best.

There is reason to be optimistic...

Where's the stat when you throw 3yds on third and 8?
Looks good in the stat book, Dak has mastered it.
I could go on, but at some point you need watch and understand game situations.

Oh thank goodness.

I was sitting here thinking he led the league in INT and Pick6s last year despite missing 30% of the season, and despite having some inflated stats always come up small year after year when it mattered most....when the ELITE QBs separate themselves from the Kirk Cousins of the world.

But after seeing these stats, one thing is clear: I'm wrong. DEAD WRONG. He's higher on that list than freaking Mahomes!!!!

We've had an elite, big game QB all along! We can only pray when he retires in 6 or 7 years, that we'll find another QB just like him, so we can have similar success we've been taking for granted under Dak....all the way through the 2045 NFL season.

Yeah and the other 21 guys on the field can do no wrong....ignorance is bliss!
Blaming one guy is lazy and ignorant. Giving all the credit to one guy is too.

I love it. I do. And I don't hate Dak like some. But if the team doesn't win in the post season, history won't really care about Dak.

Dak hasn't stepped up in the games where we've exited the playoffs. He just hasn't. I'd feel different if Dak had balled out and we still lost. That hasn't been the case.

I still like him. I want him to succeed. But, time is running out on his career. You only get so many shots in the NFL.

And nobody really gives two sheets about your opinion

those are facts people want to state facts because there's narratives in here that says Prescott can't throw a deep ball, Prescott is not accurate, that he doesn't throw a catchable ball but then we have all facts to show that that's untrue!

by the way you do understand when they get to the playoffs we're playing the best defense in probably the entire NFL that things change whenever the offensive line doesn't block well, they don't open holes, there's no run game, we only have one skill player and CD lamb trying to make any plays, you have bonehead knucklehead mental mistakes by your tight end Dalton Schultz..

I mean you get Michael Gallup being pushed off his route doesn't make an effort to come back for the ball gets picked off sure that's all Prescott's fault it's just the fact that when he gets to the playoffs he forgets how to play football??

even though the week before when you get a little support he destroyed Tampa Bay but then everyone will say well it was the worst team in the playoffs well if they were the worst team in the playoffs I guarantee you we would have beat Minnesota, the giants, and most likely had a pretty good chance to beat the Eagles because we had did that during the regular season the 49ers are our Achilles heel their front seven is very difficult to beat just like against Washington the final game of the season their front seven pretty much made our offensive line look like a high school bunch you cannot play quarterback when you don't have time to throw let those stupid routes develop and you have no run support and you only have one player making plays for you in CD lamb....

Most of us know this. These stats aren't to present to people that "WHOA LOOK AT DAK HE HAS GREAT STATS!!!!". When we look at stats its to help us tell a story. Especially when that narrative and story is wrong on many accounts especially when it comes to Dak.

Nobody cares about individual awards or accomplishments. WE all want the same goal. But there's a story here that the Cowboys and Dak look good in the regular season and get to San Fran and everything is thrown out the window. Now a lazy opinion would say we are just choking. But the NFL is never that easy. There's a reason for it. It could be because of Dak. Could be other things.

He threw for 200 yards 1TD and 2 picks to end the season. Led the team to 12 points. That's off the charts prolific proliftivity.
He was bad but it was a game of missed opportunity. Guys dropping interceptions. But a week prior they were catching interceptions and dominating the Buccs. Of course the Buccs are a inferior team but you don't just forget how to catch or throw the football based on the talent you face.

Just like some enjoy stats, others just follow the ball and don't look at blocking, route running, dropped passes, missed tackles and assignments, not to mention poor play calls.
Enjoy following the ball around like many fans do.
Dak is far from perfect, so are all the others.
We know Prescott isn’t perfect. But truthfully, who is. This is the best supporting cast he’s had in quite some time. This is going to be a big year to tell us , who the real Prescott has become. The last time we’ve had this was his rookie season, and we know what he did then. If it wasn’t for Byron Jones, who knows
