... Remember Mariota and Monday nights game against the Texans.

Mariota went 22-23 with a perfect passer rating. And yet the Titans were not competitive. This tweet does a good job of explaining why his stats did not match the eye test.

This reminds me of Dak against the Commanders. He was awful essentially the entire game. And yet due to two passes his passer rating was stellar. Eye test > Stats in this case.

As a reminder Dak is 23rd in the NFL in QBR. Top 5? Brees, Mahomes, Rivers, Goff and Wilson in that order.

For added Dak context Joe Flacco and Ryan Fitzpatrick have been better. Fitzpatrick has been benched twice and there is talk Joe has been Wally Pipped. Meanwhile we wouldn't trade Dak for 2 first rounders and are backing up the Brinks truck. Future is bright!

They just tell us we are arbitrarily taking 2 passes away. We can win with Dak but most of the time we are not going to win because of Dak.

His flaws just limit him. It's that simple.

This might be the best way to look at it. We might be able to win with Dak but he's never going to be that guy that can overcome crap breaking down all around him like other top QBs can and have.

The Tennessee game is probably an even better example of what you're talking about. Eye test said bleh, without excluding any plays, while the qb rating said 99. If the TD/Int ratio is good, the qb rating is almost always going to be high. That's why Weeden was in the mid-90's when Dallas benched him for Cassel.

I disagree about Dak being horrible essentially the entire game. Sure he wasn't Brees level, but despite a slow start I thought he played well. As for those two passes for the big yards, first, it makes no sense to discard those, as if he didn't throw and complete those passes, second, every other QB gets credit for the yardage after the catch so why shouldn't Dak, and third, even if Cooper hadn't gained the yardage after the catch it was still a first down and the drive would have continued, likely with Dak throwing for more yardage.

Except the cowboys were competitive against the Commanders. The cowboys won.

Other than that minor small insignificant detail. You’re onto something.

Except the game was in jeopardy because we couldn't create big plays until we finally did.

It's a big play league and Dak is not a big play guy.

We won because eventually Cooper made some big plays.

If Dak was a big play guy we'd be a Superbowl team.

It was big plays from Dak, he recognized the coverages and made the passes.
Cooper said that pass rarely come to him in practice but maybe 10% of the time. The route is to clear it for another WR.
But Dak recognized it, and made the throw. Give him credit, stop being blind.

If it was any other QB, people would say, oh, Dak would not do that.

Give me the the 10 to 20 yard pass and 50 YAC or more for a TD all day long.

there is no TD stat for a 20 yard pass BUT...

Ahh so what your telling the rest of us schlubs, is AFTER Dak hit Cooper on a few passing routes, one of which was thrown between 2 defenders closing, those were Coopers big time plays... gotcha.
