There are a lot of tools in the toolbox now. A good coach figure out something to run based on the personel and his comfort / style. You could run a 3-4 or most 4-3 schemes with these guys. We did trade off pure speed for size so the "Tampa 2" guys wouldn't work as well, thats about it.

Umm Super Bowls, winning, you know that kind of thing.

Name me the last successful team to run your ******** 46?

Don't the Skins run a 4-6 ? I thought that is what Willaims D is based on. Last year it got them the 10th ranked defense, not so good this year. They are not the best at aquiring good talent, so its kinda hard to judge...That and I'm biased against them...lol.

So if Parcells leaves after the season and we get a new coach we will probably return to the 4-3 defense. Do we have the players to make it work?

Starting D-Line? Spears, Ratliff, Ferguson, Ellis

Starting LB's? Ware, James, Ayodele (or Carp if he pans out)

Starting CB's - Newman, Henry

Starting FS - Watkins (this kid is gonna make it)

Starting SS - Williams

I think this D might be better as a 4-3 than a 3-4... Thoughts everyone????

In large part it would depend on who the next HC would be. As for the 3-4 or 4-3 both are good defenses that work when players execute within the system. Dallas has the people to run the 3-4 and we do run the 4-3 as well from time to time

The beauty of the 3-4 is that you can play 4-3 at times with it. However, if you're a 4-3 team, you usually are stuck playing with that the entire game since your personnell isn't really suited for it.

I don't think Ware is really suited for the 4-3 and the problem with the defense is that it struggles to get consistent pressure on the QB. They've defended the run very well up until the NYG game. Since the tendency for 3-4 defenses is to struggle against the run, I don't see the 3-4 as a problem.

The major problems is that we lack some defensive creativity, we don't disguise blitzes well and we rarely stunt. Plus, we need one of the 3-4 DE's...either Spears or Canty to start coming through. Teams can either use man to man blocking and have a 3 step drop to avoid Ellis and Ware. Or they can double Ellis and Ware and use 5 step and 7 step drops. If Spears or Canty could occasionally force teams to double team one of them, it would make things a lot more difficult for opposing offenses.
