I saw an article in the News Zone grading out the defensive lines that ranked them Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Commanders.

I guess one could make a case that is accurate, I think on paper, to start the season I would have to say that the smart money would start out betting that we are dead last in that category until proven wrong.

We drafted Taco, but the Commanders got a major coup when they took their first rounder. Their first rounder on paper is far better than our first rounder. With these lines loading up on us Zeke may find it tougher sledding when it comes to NFE east teams across the board.

Until they can prove anything I'd rank our d-line last.

Statistically, our DL was not nearly as bad as many fans believe. We were top half in the league in sacks and a great rush defense(though I do believe teams could've ran on us if they stuck to it).

Point is our DL wasn't awful and should be improved.

As far as running the football? We can run the ball on any team we want, especially if Dak plays well. Zeke had over 100 yards the second time we played the Giants. Dak just played like a rookie in that game. I would take our 3 all pros against any defensive linemen in the league.

Right on. Our DL was already deep and got deeper and more talented during the offseason. If Collins becomes a pro bowl caliber talent and one of the young and talented DEs turns into a 8-10 sack type of pressure player, which is entirely possible, this line will be darn good.

I don't think Zeke's going to have that tough of a time running on anyone.

He actually had a really good game against the Giants the 2nd meeting, but we kept mysteriously going away from him.

I like what we're doing with our defense, but yeah it's lacking.

We chose to spend our resources on OL and it shows.

The team has a first round, second round, and two third round defensive ends in the mix. Then there are a pair of defensive ends signed as free agents.

Mayowa and Lawrence probably start the mix, but Taco, Irvin, Tapper, and Moore will keep things moving and upwardly moving.

I wouldn't have too much of a beef with anyone putting the Dallas DL last in the East... but if you consider bench depth (or rotation) then yeah, I can see putting Washington last. They have very little behind their starters. Dallas, while not super talented in its starting front four, has a pretty decent second group.

The problem is that Washington runs a 34 but is in a 42 nickle for over half the time... so you have to consider Ryan Anderson, Kerrigan, Smith, etc. as DE's in those instances.

Like I said... Dallas needs to prove on the field that they're not last.

The offenses in the NFC East have improved, but they all still have to show that they can perform better than the Dallas Cowboys Offense!

I don't disagree.

Here we go, going into camp in July...defensive end?

The candidates are many, and don’t just assume first-round draft choice Taco Charlton is a walk-in starter. That is where Mayowa is best suited to play, and remember, after a lethargic start to the 2016 season, and after being left off the game-day 46-man roster for three consecutive games, he returned to record four of his six sacks over the final five games – a near 13-sack pace factored over 16 games. But again, his chance to compete won’t occur until training camp.

Then there is last year’s first fourth-round draft choice – yes, before Dak Prescott – one Charles Tapper, who missed the entire season recovering from congenital pars defect in his back. He’s out there now, seemingly healthy, and he’s versatile. He can play the right side and he can play the left side. So depends.

Then Demontre Moore, the one-time third-round draft choice of the New York Giants who basically is on his last chance to revive a floundering NFL career, the Cowboys his fifth team in five years. Moore played just four games last year in Seattle before landing on season-ending injured reserve in late December. The former A&M Aggie from nearby DeSoto worked this past week of OTAs with the first-team defense at the right end spot.

And then there is Charlton, working alternately with the first, second and thirds on the right side, and likely will be given every opportunity to win the starting job. But again, that is nowhere close to a given or happening.

This might even become a possibility:

And in the end, might the Cowboys be forced to keep nine? Might they have the luxury to trade someone instead of outright cutting him? Just might the Cowboys have raised the talent level from the bottom up in that eight-man pool?

If they rated them relative to opposing OLines it would be a different outcome.

The Cowboys DL does not have to face the Cowboys OL in games. That's a big advantage.

How do you even compare 3-4 and 4-3 DLines?

They should compare front 7 players to make it a reasonable comparison.

We could easily have 5-6 players with between 5-8 sacks each (DLaw, Irving, Collins, Crawford, Taco, and Mayowa)

This DL may not have the superstars, but it is fairly deep and its clear the coaches value a rotation with high motors across the line.

If you get 35-40 sacks a year-- does it really matter how you got them? One guy accounting for 15 sacks is impressive-- but I am willing to see if Rod can develop the rotation method.
