Statistically, our DL was not nearly as bad as many fans believe. We were top half in the league in sacks and a great rush defense(though I do believe teams could've ran on us if they stuck to it).

Point is our DL wasn't awful and should be improved.

As far as running the football? We can run the ball on any team we want, especially if Dak plays well. Zeke had over 100 yards the second time we played the Giants. Dak just played like a rookie in that game. I would take our 3 all pros against any defensive linemen in the league.

While I agree that our defense was better than most thought they would be and not really that bad overall, I would like to have the ability to get one sack when you need it most. The games are so close that we need to be able to stop game winning drive against us. Rodgers has stuck it to us in this regard and once he did it on one leg. If we made it to the bowl we'd likely face Brady. What would he do in the same scenario?

I get your point and I completely agree.

Sometimes those "sacks when you need it" are just dumb luck. It's not always some elite defensive linemen stepping up to make the big play.

Jeff Heath had a sack when we needed it in the game and he was in perfect position to strip the ball. Somehow Rodgers held onto the ball...if Heath made contact a tenth of a second sooner, Rodgers loses that ball and we win the game.

Also you just need to hope the refs do their job in crunch time and don't just let the opposing OL hold at will....

I'd rate our DL last, for sure. Though, I agree that our depth from 1-8 is pretty good. We've got 5-6 guys who are capable of being marginal starters and another 2-3 who are a bit better than that.

Our defense allowed 34 points to Green Bay in the playoffs. That's all we need to focus on. Until it is better than that, we're not going anywhere.

And they put up 38 on the Vikings, Seahawks and Giants the month before and most of us would kill for defenses with that much talent. Those are probably the top 3 defenses in our conference.

If we are going to build our defense to keep Aaron Rodgers when he gets hot from putting up 30 points on a regular basis, we are going to be very disappointed.

Don't worry... they're already getting Taco ready to play Green Bay.

That's fair, but defense is the same problem that has plagued us for years. We were better last year, but we weren't that much better. Part of our defensive success last year was due to playing a weaker schedule and part of it was due to having a ball-control offense.

The main problem remains the same, the lack of a consistent pass rush. We were 26th in the league in total team pressures last year, according to sportingcharts.com, which is a much more telling statistic to me than sacks. We had 81, while there were 16 teams with more than 100. The Super Bowl teams had 122 (Atlanta) and 109 (New England).

Again, some of that is due to our ball-control offense, but it was easy to see last year that we lacked any kind of consistency in forcing quarterbacks to get rid of the ball before they were ready even while playing that weaker schedule. This led to the high completion rate/QB rating against us despite the fact that our secondary played decently.
