Yeah I hear you, we are talking about slightly different things. The only thing I would somewhat disagree with you on is that as you push money into voidable years it does typically trigger bonus money to be paid out immediately to the player. Typically that money has technically already been paid by the team into the escrow account though so its not a huge factor though.
Guaranteed money has to be put in escrow. Option bonuses which are not guaranteed and are paid when specified by the contract terms. I do not believe this money is put into an escrow account. But these bonuses are optional and only paid if the player remains under contract with the team. If the Eagles cut Hurts after this year, they will not pay his option bonuses for the next 3 years which totals $150 million spread out over 8 years.
