The NFL Scouting Combine never ceases to amaze me. It gets bigger each time around. We get more players to participate every year. It's such an impressive, well-run event.

Being in Indianapolis allowed me to revisit my "Hot 100" prospects, and you'll notice some significant changes: Players who helped their stock, guys who hurt themselves, and those who fell off the list altogether.

You'll notice that Julio Jones elevated himself to Tier 1, despite his foot injury (remember, this isn't taking medical conditions into account). Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback from Nevada, wasn't on the list initially, but he was impressive at the combine. As was Fort Valley State receiver Ricardo Lockette, who is making his debut because he had such great speed and burst.

Hey Hos, did you notice that Gil Brandt had Patrick Peterson dropping some?

I think he just got bumped down the list because it's alphabetical in each tier and Julio Jones was put before him.

I like Kaepernick. If he is there in 4th I'd jump on him.

i think its in alpabetical order so you don't get a gist of whos creme of the crop and whos not in brandt's eye

I think the whole point is that it doesn't matter, which is why he broke it down by tiers.

Putting Peterson at #1 in Tier one means next to nothing, what we are supposed to take away is that he IS in the creme of the crop, in Brandt's eyes.

If you are going to put the players in tiers, it would be more helpful to do it based on their grades (i.e. players with the same or a similar grade should be in the same tier). You can't just use an arbitrary interval like 10 and say all players within that tier are equal.

You're probably onto something as far as his forcing 10 players into each tier, but for his particular exercise, grades don't play a part.

It's not really any more arbitrary than saying players are graded on a numerical scale of 1 to 100.

Brandt may have been a "guru" at one time but I haven't paid much heed to what he had to say concerning the draft since: Rod Hill, Howard Richards, Kevin Brooks, Danny Noonan, Larry Bethea, Billy Cannon, and Robert Shaw. Granted, Shaw and Cannon were injury casualties but they were not very impressive when they were healthy.

I keep hearing this kids name Ben Ijalana from Villanova, O lineman. Seems to have a lunch pail type work ethic. Anyone have any thoughts about him as a mid to late round pick possibility?

At one point he was being talked about as a second round pick, but he got hurt and hasn't been able to work out so who knows. I don't think he'll make it to the mids, much less late picks though.
