Call it icing on the cake.
Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in a 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints, the league announced Wednesday.

RG3 was poised in victory, completing 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards and two scores through the air. His first NFL touchdown has already spawned a viral Internet meme, and it appears the Commanders have an answer at quarterback for the first time in decades.
It wasn't perfect, but it was memorable. Griffin successfully guided Washington to an upset win before a hostile Superdome crowd. We saw RG3 attempt mostly short passes -- only two beyond 20 yards -- but that was coach Mike Shanahan's design from the start. Griffin kept mistakes to a minimum.

Nowhere to go but down for RG3. He is at the top this week. :D

OK, .. he's good, .. so what? He should be with all they gave up to get him.

IT'S ON NOW !! We play him twice a year, .. deal with it!

Can he do it against our defense? We'll see.

Can they stop our offense? We'll see.

Just because RG3 is good does not mean they win the division.

I can't say I disagree. A rookie went out there and perfomed putting up big numbers with no turnovers and did it on the road. As far as how he does through out the year we shall see.

he has a ton of room to get better.

this award is ridiculous. Nobody can truly argue he had the best offensive performance in the league in week 1. It seems more like bowling in that he benefits from doing so much better then what was expected.

Well when you consider the "lack of talent" at the skill positions, he did pretty good with the tools he was given, no?:D

Why not, I'm not fan of the skins by any means but the guy put up the 4th most yards over the weekend, threw for 2 TD and 0 ints and posted the best QB rating out of any of the QB. This is not just a good day for a rookie QB it is a good day for any QB

yes, it was a good day. I would even argue it was even a great day.

but it was not in any way, shape, or form, the best day of any offensive player in the nfl for week one.

so I laughed at the award, as apparently we use a system of handicapping similar to what you see in league bowling.

Well like many things it is a matter of opinion but as far as QB play I think there is a legit case to be made for the honor. I can put aside my disdain for the Commanders and just see this from a pure football stand point and to claim there is no case to be made is untrue. Like it or not he played outstanding be it his 1st time playing in the NFL or his 10th year

The fall for RG3 will be nowhere as hard for him as it will be for the delusional Skins fan base.

Agree... it's the NFL machine that is now going to market him like they did Vick...

They allowed "III" on the back of jerseys now just so they can market RG3...

He had a really good week... and he is going to have others, but this was for Marketing the new face of the NFL...

Maybe so but I have to say he is a good role model. Griffin graduated in three years with a degree in political science and a 3.67 GPA, while appearing on the Dean's List twice. During his final year of college sports eligibility, he was studying for a master's degree in communication.

He is not a guy who is known for off the field issues, he is intelligent and very athletic. Just because I don't like the Skins it is hard not to look at RGIII and not like what I see in him as a person and a player in the NFL.

Having said that I hope we pick him clean and beat him up on Thanksgiving but NFL could do a lot worse choosing a poster boy for the league

I was looking over the first page of the NFL zone and thinking 'man, five RG3 threads just isn't enough we need a sixth', then bam this comes along, thank God. I look forward to him having his own subforum very soon.

what's funny, is most of us are agreeing for a rookie in his first start, he was phenomenal. Apparently any mention of flaws is unacceptable for you guys.

Interesting how you use good, great and phenomenal to describe RG3's play in different threads to fit your agenda in that thread.

Fact is he had the best QB rating in the league this week. Statistically speaking, it has been argued that he had the best debut of any rookie QB in the history of the NFL. He played in the loudest stadium in the league. His #1 receiver left the game after 8 plays. All but a few passes in the game, he put the ball where his receivers could catch it in stride. Outside of Santana Moss, there is not a single 1,000 yard WR or RB on the roster. He surpassed 98% of everyone's expectations, except maybe Skin's "glass is completely full" homers. I can see an arguement for this award.

my agenda?

I didn't use good, I agree with someone else that used good. My point was his game was better then good.

I should have used the word arguement. You don't have an agenda.

still not seeing the point?

I've described his day as great, and in the context of him being a rookie in his first start, even going as far as phenomenal

There is a Cedric Griffin on the team.
