For the record, I don't believe this either. Its more justification for what he knows is an incredibly unpopular decision. He's never once stated the slightest ounce of regret for firing Gailey, and now suddenly 10 years later he comes out with a convenient mea culpa that backs up this nonsense?

Uh uh, not buying.

I agree...plus he doesnt need to defend that move, it was 100% correct.

Just like he would be 100% justified in firing Wade as well.

I agree.

I think he is just using that as one of those "I made the mistake of firing a guy too early and I won't let it happen again" excuses.

Your assuming Detroit is the only option he'll have. He's supposedly on short lists in Cleveland and St Louis too

Apparently, after a couple of losses about a month ago or so for the Browns, Lerner had Savage start compiling a list of potential HCs. I hear it's quite an extensive list...not that that means each candidate would be rated equally, perhaps he's in the top group of that list.

Seems to be some love up here for Eric Mangini with Pioli in as GM. We'll see.

I believe Jerry Jones was genuine when he emphatically stated that Wade Phillips would the Head Coach in 2009.

I don't think it mattered which Coach was available or not. I believe he really wants Jason Garrett to get the job, but he knows he isn't ready yet and the best chance to make that happen is to keep Wade Phillips around one more season.

Jason Garrett is not going anywhere. He will interview for the Detroit Lions job as a good faith gesture but just like he did with Sean Peyton and the Oakland Raiders, Jerry Jones will convince Jason Garrett to stay on another season.

Quite frankley, I doubt Jerry Jones has to convince him not to take the job anyway.

To add, Jason Garrett would be foolish to take the Detroit Lions job, unless he believes the Cowboys are a sinking ship.

Come on... STOP!.... you made me lmao and spit coffee all over 'puter!! :laugh2:

It's a potential PR mess either way, more a question of when. (A) Garrett leaves and Shanahan comes in as OC or maybe Wade is booted and as a result Jerry looks like a back-stabber. (B) Everyone stays (except the dear departed Read), and the team shows little to no improvement, and Garrett still doesn't look ready, and Jones is pilloried nationwide. For my money B is a bigger mess.

Or (C) Garrett takes over after next season (all Rooney hand-waving aside) and the team still doesn't get it, and then Jones is truly facing declining attendance and merchandise sales. Maybe it's enough to make him hand the reins to Stephen, but now two years are lost on the prime players on the team, and some may want out.

Or (D) it all magically turns around and the team waxes all opposition in sight. What are those odds? I'll try the lottery or Vegas instead.

The Lions are willing to spend money for talent.

Their fan base is desperate for a competitve team.

You can only get better.

Matt Millen is gone.

The division isn't great.

They will have some young talent coming in.

I don't think it's such a bad gig. In fact, if I had to choose between staying around here where the owner is telling me who to get the ball to, the star receiver calling me out, and the QB saying we were out-schemed, I'm thinking I might be ready to get out.

Agreed. Given the circumstances here I'm not sure Garret is in a position to turn down any more HC offers either.

Disagree.

He can only improve the team. 0-16 lmao
The same was said about the Falcons HC job only a year ago

I agree, and again, I really think he's interviewing this yr because he is very open to leaving.

Last yr I think he interviewed more to get the experience of it more than anything else. I think he always knew Jerry was going to ante up to keep him.

The Detroit thing is not a black hole anymore. They are already at rock bottom so there's only one way to go. They have cap room, and they have two high 1st rd draft picks this yr. He also has Drew Stanton to try and develop at QB, along with Kevin Smith at RB and Calvin Johnson at WR.
