NFL.com's Baldinger Mock: Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi to Big D

Same thing I'm saying.

Honestly, if I'm Dallas, I trade down and try and get Carimi in the middle of the 1st, and then I would seriously draft Deunta Williams in the late 1st or early 2nd.

Deunta Williams is at best is a late 2nd round pick IMO. I can see him falling into the late 3rd. He'll be drafted somewhere in there.

Get an OL in the 2nd round, there will be plenty good ones to choose from.

No way Carimi is the BPA at #9.

Why Selecting Best Player Available in NFL Draft a Myth

But what about all the NFL GMs, such as the Colts’ Bill Polian or the Ravens’ Ozzie Newsome, who claim they always select the BPA? Well, they’re lying.

No general manager always selects the BPA. Many, however, select the BPA at a position of need

While there are various sub-sets of strategies inherent to this particular philosophy, I plan to show that, contrary to just about anything else you’ll read concerning draft strategy, selecting the BPA at a position of need is also an inefficient means of drafting.

so the best player available us WR do we take him ?

Because teams view Carimi as “only” a right tackle, he will probably drop a bit come draft day.

I think that’s unwarranted.

Carimi is probably the most NFL-ready of all the offensive tackles, and while he may not possess the incredible upside of someone like Tyron Smith, selecting a “sure thing” in the first-round is never a bad idea.

really ? who? a 26 year old G?
All of Smith, Carimi, Castonzo, Solder and Sherrod are likely gone before 40.

IMO its better to take the pick of the OL at 9(or 12 or 14 and whomever you deem the best fit) then take a DL at 40 which is the deepest position in this draft. More likely to get 2 startes that way imo(eg Smith and Marv Austin).

I don't think he has the feet or the flexibility to play LT but I don't care. He is the most ready to take the field now and can start for you from day 1.

He might not be a full time LT but you can slide him there if you need him or line him up at guard but if your smart you plug him in at RT and forget about that side for the next 10+ years.

To me, that's value.

He will? So why are we picking him at #9?

well the thing I fear is that if we trade down an try an get to cute

some one else grabs him

Det at 13 needs a LT if you can be sure Det does not take him
to NE at 17
to NYG 19
to KC at 21
to Eagles at 23
to Pitts at 31

A Davis played RT taken at 11

they needed a RT had Joe Staley at LT maybe the switch this year

I think you almost have to grab him at 9

Agree 100%. A mean, tough mauler at RT for the next decade. Sign me up.

You could trade back a bit and select him somewhere in the teens. I wouldn't mind that one bit.

There are so many options... but that is a good one, IMO.

Carimi could sure help Dallas, but he isn't a first round pick, imo. I wouldn't touch him until late round 1 at the earliest. I really think that he is a second round pick. That's just me. He will go in round one due to OT being such a premium position. That position used to be premium in Dallas. We shall see.

I think all of these will be first round picks

Smith
Castonzo
Carimi
Sherrod
Solder - if someone really likes - me not so much

Ijalana - maybe its a possiblity - the only thing he played atAll-Division 1-AA

I'll say this for Baldinger. I like his analysis of the Cowboys. I think he has the right position; he just has the wrong player.

Baldinger- Carimi
Casserly- Smith
Lombardi- Smith
Daivs- Castanzo

All these guys have mocked OTs to Dallas.

I always hear Carimi doesn't have the feet but yet the guy never seems to get beat and looks just as nimble as anyone.

Meanwhile Solder gets beat all the time but people project him higher.

Give me Carimi for the Cowboys over any of these offensive tackles.

I say our best bet would be hopefully get a trade with Minny at 12 and take him there.

Do you think that's too high to take Carimi?

Another thing you have to be aware of is Garrett will have a full and detailed scouting report on all the Wisconsin Oline from is good buddy Chryst. So if he does have short comings Garrett will know about it.

My problem with Tyron is he's not a "sure" thing. I know you can say that about a lot of players, but I want somebody that can play now, not a project that I hope develops. We've had a plethora of drafts that we were smoking the hopium!

Another question I have is how is Sam Youngs progress going? That's the key here. Jerry loves him some late round OT's.

So he is best suited at RT?

Sorry, but NFL teams dont draft RTs in the top 10 (at least not on purpose).

That would be a monumentally stupid pick. Seriously, drafting a RT in the top 10...........wow.

I don't get that logic. If you get a guy that can start at right tackle and hold down that spot for 10 years, maybe make a couple pro bowls, why wouldn't you take him at #9? Would you rather draft some soft guy from California who busts, or Cam Newton, or Marcus Spears, or a RB who gives you 3 pretty good years before getting slowed by injuries?

Why would consider T Smith soft (assuming that's who you are referring to from California)?

From everything I've read on him, I haven't come across "soft" as an adjective to describe him.

Our offensive line is aging. This makes sense. In this mock draft Peterson, Fairley, and Dareus are all off the board. Anybody have any beef with Carimi getting drafted here?

Not at all. I do think Dallas can trade back and still be able to grab Carimi and at worst pick up another of the highly touted OL. Carimi would still be the guy I want but 9 is just to high.
