How does someone so talented continue to get black balled? (end sarcasm)

Broncos release 9 players
12 hours, 38 minutes ago

Buzz up! 4 PrintENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)—The Denver Broncos got a head start on cuts, releasing nine players, including quarterback Ingle Martin(notes).

The team also placed guard Matt McChesney(notes) on the reserve/injured list with a sprained ankle on Friday.

There are no surprises in the other players released: DLs Matthias Askew(notes) and Carlton Powell(notes); OL Kory Lichtensteiger(notes) and Clint Oldenberg; CB Rashod Moulton(notes); RB Marcus Thomas; WR Nate Swift and LB Lee Robinson.

Martin is a free agent who signed after No. 2 quarterback Chris Simms(notes) sprained an ankle two weeks ago. Starter Kyle Orton(notes) has an injured finger, and if neither can play in the opener at Cincinnati next week, rookie Tom Brandstater(notes) is expected to start.

The Broncos must get down to 53 players Saturday.

Cardinals cut TE Pope, S Francisco
By BOB BAUM, AP Sports Writer
13 hours, 37 minutes ago

Buzz up! 1 PrintTEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Former starting tight end Leonard Pope(notes) and four-year Cardinals safety Aaron Francisco(notes) were among 21 players cut by Arizona to reach the NFL’s 53-man limit.

Others released by the team on Friday included offensive tackle Oliver Ross(notes).

Pope, a 6-foot-8 third-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2006, played in 42 games and started 25 in three seasons with the Cardinals, including eight last year. He has 48 career catches but only nine in 13 games last season. Francisco, a standout on special teams, played in 53 games over four seasons after making the club as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2005.

“Two in particular that have made significant contributions to our football squad,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “It’s tough to part ways with that but, in any situation, you have to make those decisions. I thank both Leonard and Aaron for what they’ve done for me and for this program and I wish them the best, but that’s unfortunately is what this business is about.”

The team cut injured tackle Keilen Dykes(notes) (quadriceps), leaving the Cardinals thin on the defensive line.

“That’s where it was a tough decision because usually we carry an extra one there,” Whisenhunt said. “That was something that we looked long and hard at.”

He noted that nose tackle Alan Branch(notes) played some at end in Thursday night’s 19-0 loss at Denver “and did pretty well there.”

“He gives us a little bit more flexibility of a guy that can play inside or outside,” the coach said.

Tim Castille(notes), who played in 13 games for Arizona last season, and Reagan Maui’a(notes) were among those released, leaving nine-year NFL veteran Dan Kreider(notes) as the only fullback on the roster.

Undrafted rookie Reggie Walker, an inside linebacker out of Kansas State, made the team after impressing coaches in the preseason games.

Five-foot-7 LaRod Stephens-Howling(notes), a seventh-round draft pick, was one of four running backs on the roster.

The pass-crazy Cardinals kept seven wide receivers, including Lance Long(notes), a member of the practice squad last year who caught just 14 passes in his senior season at Mississippi State. Whisenhunt said the injury to Early Doucet(notes), out with fractured ribs, figured in the decision.

“With Early in his situation and not being sure about when he’ll be able to play,” Whisenhunt said, “it made that decision critical.”

The release of Pope left the squad with three tight ends: Stephen Spach(notes), Anthony Becht(notes) and Dominique Byrd(notes). A fourth tight end, Ben Patrick(notes), is suspended for the first four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Others cut included quarterback Tyler Palko(notes), cornerback Wilrey Fontenot(notes), linebacker Victor Hobson(notes), wide receiver Onrea Jones(notes) and center Melvin Fowler(notes).

Pretty surprised at those cuts by the Cardinals. Those two guys have contributed a bunch, and I've always liked Pope's size.

I was surprised by the Pope cut too. He will catch on somewhere else.

The Panthers should look at him because they haven't had a good TE since Walls. The Bengals should look at him also with two of their TEs going to IR.

This is an excellent point. The Panthers are highly criticized in the local media about lack of production since Wesley Walls. It would kind of surprise you that they haven't done better drafting or signing guys from that position considering John Fox is a smashmouth, ball control style offense guy.

The Giants have released wide receiver David Tyree, one of their heroes from Super Bowl XLII.

Steelers cut a few I'd be interested in

Dallas Baker
Roy Lewis
Jeremy Parquet
Desmond Sherrod
Carey Davis
Isaac Redman
Bruce Davis
Anthony Madison
A.Q. Shipley
Scott Paxson
Sonny Harris
Jason Capizzi
Mike Reilly
Peter Czech
Justin Vincent
Tyler Grisham
Tom Korte
Steve McLendon
Andy Schantz
Brandon Williams
Donovan Woods

Found this on KFFL, so take it FWIW, but AQ Shipley and Bruce Davis would be worth looks imo. I remember wanting Bruce Davis in the 08' draft but the steelers took him in rd 3 (huge reach imo), but if we could fit him I definately wouldn't mind.

Miami Dolphins release offensive guard and undrafted rookie

DAVIE - The Miami Dolphins training camp cuts feature a changing of the guards.

Offensive guard Brandon Frye, who was claimed off Houston's practice squad early last season, was released Saturday as the Dolphins trimmed to create its 53-man roster.

Frye played in seven games for the Dolphins in 2008, and was versatile enough to play both guard and tackle. He replaced Jake Long, working with the starting offensive line in the second-quarter of Thursday night's 10-7 win over New Orleans.

The Dolphins clearly felt comfortable with Joe Berger and Shawn Murphy as the backup interior linemen, and determined there was more of a need to keep rookie Andrew Gardner and second-year lineman Nate Garner, two offensive tackles.

Mark Lewis, an undrafted rookie free agent, was also released. But the fact he's made it this far into camp indicates University of Oregon product is being considering for one of the eight spots on the practice squad.

If Lewis is added to the practice squad the Dolphins will have 10 offensive linemen to work with in practice.

I liked Mike Reilly, he was the QB I wanted most in the draft. I think he should consider the CFL or UFL.

Wow, so they kept Berger? Doesn't that affect our supplemental draft pick status next year?
