I'm sorry, but that's not what you said. You said the guy doesn't get off the line of scrimage, can't disengage, not particularly good against the run, etc,etc.. and that's just not the case.
Now, I would agree with you that after watching clips of him ( not only this two, but in other games as well ) that it looks like he doesn't go 100% all the time, but, then again, all players don't go " 100% all of the time ".
As for teams no ranking him high, that might be the case, however, teams had Dez Bryant off their boards entering last year's draft. Obviously, those teams look pretty silly right now. We'll see if Quinn makes whomever is not ranking him high look silly as well.
OK, then consider it said. I have commented on what a good athlete he is in the past. That's what I don't get about this player. I mean, he should be dominating against everybody and he doesn't. He does not get off the line of scrimage well. He's cat quick on his first move but he's slow off the snap. I mean, that's just one of the things I don't understand.
When he gets blocked, he stays blocked and he doesn't have to. He has the quicks and the strength to fight threw those blocks. He just doesn't do it. It's weired. I honestly don't know what the problem is.
So I guess we will see. I mean, maybe he comes into the NFL and makes everybody see another player but honestly, I can't blame teams for having concerns about this player. I would worry about having to make a decision to spend that kind of money on this player.
If you watch him against teams like Virginia or Duke or Citadel or East Carolina, he will look good. I mean, he had a Hall of Fame type games against Virginia with 7 tackles and 3 sacks but Virginia was not a very good team in 09. They went 3 and 9, there only wins were against this same North Carolina, Indiana and Maryland. I mean, Virginia gave up 41 sacks in 09. They were not very good on that OL. I'm not trying to take it away from him, I'm just concerned that you don't see that same kind of thing against some of the quality teams on the schedule.
Connecticut 3 tackles, no sacks.
Miami 1 tackle, no sacks.
VTech 1 tackle, no sacks.
NCSt. 4 tackles, no sacks.
Pittsburgh 3 tackles, no sacks.
The two games that I think you can look at and say he had good games against quality teams are GTech and BC. In the case of BC, who was an 8 and 5 team in 2009, he recorded 3 tackles and a sack. Was very active against a good player in Costanza. I think that's a game you can point to as to why he might be worth taking in the 1st round. To be fair, the QB for BC, Dave Shinkskie, was terrible but Quinn still had a decent game with 3 tackles and a sack.
GTech is the other game against a good team that you can point to. GTech ran the ball over 50 times in that game. They had Dwyer go for 158 and Nesbitt go for 97 yards respectively but Quinn did record 10 tackles in that game. No sacks but he had good production in the run game. Still GTech did run it down their throats with over 250 rushing yards and won 24-7.
This is what we have to go on. If you look at 2008, he had a good year as a Freshman as far as tackles go but very few sacks with only 2.
I just look at this and I worry about trying to take this guy in the top 10. To me, he is not a sure thing. He definately has talent but I don't look at this body of work and say he's a sure thing. I just don't see it.
