The NFL Draft has evolved from just 20 years ago in the Marriot Marquis where only about 420 draftnicks attended and no TV just Raido.
To todays extravaganza with TV build up and 3 days on the tube.
I'll bet the NFL owners get all the TV revenue from that event. Away from the $$$ they would have to add to the Salary cap.
Even though it is for future players in the NFL.

After this year's crap production they are in danger of killing the ratings. They had way too much going on and the venue was horrid. I honestly have never seen so many commercials in my life. Going to commercial breaks when multiple picks are in is unforgivable. The Cowboys selection was made literally over 20 minutes before it was announced. A terrible job by the NFL.

There is no doubt the NFL owners screw the players far more than any other league. The lack of competition of any other league makes this possible along with what seems like a weak Union. The owners do what many in their situation do. They take greed to an absurd level. IMO.

Eventually, the players and the union will have to take a stand. Unfortunately this likely means I'll miss some games.

I would hope so, sorry I'm not opposed to seeing the NFL and the owners and players prospering and the league being as popular as ever.

Yeah the whole, "We understand team such and such has made their pick, we will get to that in a moment." Isn't the whole point of the draft is to see who is drafted not fluff crap that should be in between pciks.

Yes, in the age of twitter, having a delay is ridiculous.

The production this year was bad, but this was probably one of the weakest drafts in recent memory as far as players are concerned, and that didn't help. There just wasn't a Manziel-type story-line to go with.

The delay was most likely from putting the players names on the back of those jerseys. They were behind on about 3 players when the Byron Jones pick was made.

I doubt that seriously. If it wasn't included, the NFLPA would likely convince players to not attend.

i hate the spectacle it's become. this is the NFL Mudda Humpin draft and i can live with:
1) pagentry and people paraded around to show off the history and caring of the NFL
2) inane announcers trying to make small talk by simply saying things that anyone who gives a damn about the draft have heard for months by this time
3) i can deal with never understanding how to fully say "rappaport reports" with a straight face
4) i can even deal with it being spread over 3 nights.

but i am sick and tired of them "getting around to the pick when the commercials are over". when you see 4 picks backed up and they're still shooting the **** on stage, you've gone where you never should have gone. i mean, why focus on the draft picks in play.

this is only the NFL Mudda humpin draft...are we really there to see who gets picked???

Only there for the very cerebral Chat Room discussion. That is all............

I just don't understand why it took so long to announce the picks. It was obnoxious.

add revenue = money?

except it's not just ad money. it's grandstanding time. they have "x" amount of time for sale during a draft and i would think they would tell advertisters for the first few rounds not to expect to hvae a pick wait to show off a 30 seconds geico commercial first.

2 or 3 times over.

for the first round, I'm almost certain that they do not announce a pick while either network is on commercial

I didn't even watch the draft this year, just followed the results online.

They ruined it by pushing for 3 days instead of two and it takes forever to get through it.

you hope that it isn't included in revenue?

I don't care if it is or isn't I have no problem with owners making money. They have a deal with players that allow players to make a boat load of money as well. In the end both sides make big money and we pay or it.

They won't take a stand because the aren't willing to sit out long enough to change it. The clock is ticking on an NFL body much faster than other sports, and essentially, the players will simply be doing it to benefit players down the road, not themselves.

The NFL is far bigger than its players. That's definitely not the case with the NBA and MLB.

Take Brady and Manning from the NFL, and nothing really changes. Take LeBron and Curry out of the NBA, and it really hurts the product.

What is greed?
