NFL Draft Countdown 3 Round Mock - 3/15

I've been using Scott Wright's site for several years now and this year is by far his poorest effort. But hey, it's free.

Steve Smith in the 3rd is an AWESOME pick.

I cry about the guys that mock has going right before us.

In Round 1, Spencer goes right before us. In round 2, Weddle goes right before us.

I would be ecstatic with a draft of:
1. Spencer
2. Weddle
3. Steve Smith

even though we disagree about Leonard, I would do 2 backflips on draft-day if that went down

Or...

Rd 1: Dwayne Bowe
Rd 2: Quentin Moses/Brian Robison
Rd 3: Manny Ramirez

wouldn't mind that at all

btw, what happened to no OG that early?

At this point, this stuff is just fan fodder. The guy's connected in the scouting world. His mocks will be much better in a month.

I'd rather move up in the 3rd and take Hughes if the draft fell like this. However, I'm warming to the idea of getting an OG to be the long-term answer because Kosier ain't it. Late 3rd would be nice value on Ramirez.

If we take a kicker on day 1 of the draft I will go postal.

Well, load up the assault weapon and put on yer mailman suit!

I don't know of a single aspect of the Cowboy's play the past few years that has caused so much consternation and aggravation. I don't see how taking a franchise kicker on day one would be that terrible.

When you think about what one position, other than QB, or RB, can have as much impact on a game it makes sense to get a reliable one.

I would rather see a for sure kicker than a lazy ol' OT.

Now, is this guy a for sure kicker? That is another debate.

Very true, it is only mid March. Still have 44 days to go. That's why Goose doesn't do his first mock till about mid April.

Scott knew that we had re-signed Gramatica, so his second rounder is bizarre.

The blurb is word-for-word what it was before we re-signed Gramatica. It's just laziness on his part. He probably just wants to keep Crosby posted as a 2nd rounder, but doesn't know who else to "give" him to at this point. Surely he'll wise up and not include the guy in the 1st day on his later mocks.

To take any receiver from the SEC over Sidney Rice would be a major mistake.

22. DALLAS COWBOYS
-
AARON ROSS
CB | Texas | Scouting Report

The Cowboys have a clearly defined need at free safety so some may be surprised to see a cornerback here but there is a logical explanation. Word is Anthony Henry might be moving to free safety and since both LaRon Landry and Reggie Nelson figure to be gone by this point that might be their best chance at addressing the position. However by filling one hole with that move they would create another at cornerback opposite Terence Newman, which is where Aaron Ross comes in. After biding his time behind a talented stable of Longhorn defensive backs for most of his career Ross finally got a chance to start as a senior and boy did he take advantage of the opportunity, coming through with a number of impact plays and winning the Thorpe Award in the process. A great athlete who can also contribute as a return man, Ross doesn't get a lot of attention but he is a solid first rounder and at this point all signs point to him going higher than some would expect. After already addressing the o-line they'll be looking defensive back here.

53. Mason Crosby K - Vanderjagt was a bust but this guy will finally take care of that problem area once and for all.

87. Steve Smith WR - Terry Glenn is basically year-to-year now and, as always, Terrell Owens is minute-to-minute.

horrible, and has no chance of happening

I will commit murder if this is what the Cowboys first day ends up being.
