And his agent probably realizes that if Romo merely declines to sign anything - even after the season is over - he will either be franchised or cut.
If franchised, his take for staying with the team for a year (if he does) will be more than 12 million, guaranteed once the new season starts with him on the roster. And he'll have the prospect of the same scenario in the following year.
If franchised or cut, he can market his services to the whole NFL. If franchised, a team that is willing to pay more, plus two number one draft picks, can up the ante considerably.
If cut, he can see what the market will bear without the draft picks baggage.
This is the same agent, I believe, who wouldn't let him sign a long term contract following the season-before-last, expecting him to be in greater demand after the 2007 season.
I doubt he is any more fearful or less confident of the future than he was then.
