I thought you can't sign your franchise tag unless you are going to play? Why pay any player $20.6 million on a franchise tag if they decide to sit out the season? Makes no sense.

Makes no difference. Play games and force Dak to play out this season on his last rookie contractual year, with the intention to tag him right after, ..... and see what will happen, especially if Dak lights it up this 2019 season? You will be wishing the Cowboys had signed Dak this offseason. I guarantee it.

Dak could refuse to sign the franchise tag and instead sit out. It would hurt the Cowboys much more than it would Dak. Need to get Dak re-signed before the season starts. Even Stephen said so.

Actually we need to get a decent backup to protect against this and unforeseen injury to our qb1.
