NFL Network: Anatomy Romo to Roy

I've spent all week trying to get a Colts fan at work to realize that only one play was anyone running free. He first, having not seen highlights or anything, tried to say Romo threw short passes that went long due to bad tackling. After he saw the highlights, only one pass was the receiver even covered slightly. Blah blah blah

of course, no way anyone on the colts have EVER benefited from blown coverages, or bad tackling. They were just great routes and awesome passes by God.. er.. I mean Manning.

Didn't they win a superbowl by virtue of that? Manning tossing a deep lob to Reggie Wayne off a blown coverage by the Bears.

Q: So if we go "12" and the defense does go nickel couldn't the TEs both motion back inside (from wide) to block for MBIII? :D

You wouldn't have to motion inside. Once you send out your personnel grouping, they would send out theirs. At that point you can call whatever you want.

Yeah I just meant spread Witten and MartyB out wide showing pass then move them inside before the snap to block for MBIII or Felix on a run.

I was just wondering what would happen if the same play was called, and the defense lined up with line backers covering the TE's who are spread wide, and CB's covering the WRs who are inside. Would Romo audible to a run up the gut in this formation?

Draw up the middle with Felix would be fun to watch.

Theogt beat me to a response, but it really shows how having two complete TE's that are equally adept at blocking and receiving is a huuuuuuuge advantage for our team.

I predicted Marty B to have a career day last week. He did, it just didn't show up in the box score.

You really have to love what Garrett has done with this offense after week 1. Totally opposite of what we saw all preseason, but yet the preseason approach would work as well.

I was glad in game one that RW showed he is not just a possession WR. He has good speed and can break the long ones

No no no. That can't be right. There were testimonials made during the offseason that Roy E. Williams was slow and could not get separation. I don't get it. You must be wrong even though you're right.

No, no, no!!!!!!

It has already been presented as fact all over the TV and Internet that all 3 of those TDs were the result of blown coverages. This is pure Cowboys propoganda. That play had nothing to do with Romo, RW11, or how Garrett designed it. It was simply bad defensive execution.

no no no...you guys have it totally wrong

what really happened is Jerry conspired with the Tampa secondary last weekend, he promised them alot of oil rights after they retire, if they just let our awful WR corp make a few plays downfield and make it appear as if TO would not be missed, that way Jones would look like a genius for cutting him.

:laugh2: I know RW is just a new Keyshawn. :laugh2:

Only differance is Key never ran a 4.38 in his life. :laugh2:

I didn't realize that was such a perfect pass. Thanks for the link, I enjoyed the heck out of that.

Same here. Thanks again.

Were we running this in San Antonio, just not in the preseason games?

If you ever see a situation where there is a linebacker covering either one of our tight ends out wide, expect to see a pass. Very few LBs will be able to stay with either of our TEs, especially Bennett. We'd take that all day.

Yes. If you go back and look at my training camp report I mentioned the 2-TE set with both TEs out wide. We ran it quite a bit while I was there, but that might have been just because that was the time they were installing it.

Watching NFLN yesterday I could have sworn Jamie Dukes said "we know Roy doesn't have the speed" when they were discussing this play and I was surprised because he usually is defending the Cowboys over idiots and haters like Woodson.
Where did this myth of RW11 being slow come from?

Jamie has taken a step off the proverbial bandwagon late last year. Basically he feels the Cowboys can only beat teams in Sept, Oct, and Nov.

It is kind of funny/lame how they talk about the Giants and how they beat the Cowboys last year and their ALL TIME AWESOME DL and the pressure they are going to put on Romo. But hardly a mention how our DL and LBers sacked Eli 12 times last year. Which of course includes 8 of them in DECEMBER when the Giants got crushed in Dallas.
