NFL Network on Time Warner???

Not I, but some people live in apartment complexes where satellite is not an option, or there is a situation where the correct direction in the sky is not available.

Not only that, but trees man, TREES! I live in a highly wooded area and I'm SOL. Otherwise cable would've been long gone.

I live close to the Dallas area, but don't get DFW locals.... about an hour and a half away from Ft. Worth.

Here is verbatim what my Channel 319 says. The channel caption is "reserved for NFL."

On the screen it states:
"Reserved for the NFL Network
Dallas Cowboys vs.
Green Bay Packers
Football Game Nov. 29th
Unfortunately, the NFL has
refused our offer."

At the bottom they have a scroll that says, "If Jerry says "yes," you can watch the game here.

Just FYI.

Just remember, there are two different "levels" of the NFLN.

Some cable providers carry the NFLN minus the live games. Call your cable provider to doublecheck before next thursday.

I know that people in my area were steamed last year when they assumed that having the NFLN from the local cable provider got them the Steeler game when it didn't.

Uh, I think you're mistaken. The only levels of the network are HD and SD. The programming is the same.

I'm also unable to find anything to substantiate what you said.

I remember what Stanley was talking about last year. Some cable subscribers had the NFLN all year but then didn't get the games once they started. It didn't happen with the satellite companies.

I didn't have NFLN at the time, but I remember people complaining about it.

There are two price structures for cable providers. One price has the base NFLN, another substantially higher price has the NFLN including the eight live games.

Some cable providers didn't inform consumers that they would not be getting the games.

Sattelite subscribers all had the games.

EDIT *** I meant to quote Kilyin instead of you, sorry ****

I was one of the guys who got duped into buying the poor mans version of NFLN, my cable company failed to tell anyone that this version would not have the games available, in fact they were advertising the NFLN and the 8 games to get people away from Time-Warner and onto Grande Communications.

Then about a week before the games they had commercials saying that they would not be showing the games due to the fact the NFLN was asking Grande Communications to pay 100 million for rights to show those 8 games last year.

I immediately canceled my sports tier. I then called Direct TV and they tried to put a dish on my house but our southern exposure was not good enough.

Fortunately, this year the NFLN and Grande Communications worked out a deal and now I can have the NFLN and watch the 8 games. They didn't even add it to the sports tier, it is on the digital package so it costs less for me.

If you live in San Antonio, give Grande Communications a try if your going to miss the game.

Just checked it out. Its channel 350 here. It also says that the slot is reserved for the NFL Network but that the NFL has refused thier offer. It lists the Greenbay/Dallas game and says if Jerry says yes then you can watch the game here.

We've always had NFLN through Comcast and we got all the games. Odd, but I guess I'll take your word for it.

I have Grande and I have the NFL Network and will get to see the games.

Last year I had to go to my friends house to watch the Cowboys/Falcons game....he had AT&T cable at the time.

This ends up being a pretty simple argument. If you are a football fan, you want the NFL to win this argument. The cable companies routinely place content in which they have an ownership interest in the basic tier because it brings in more advertising revenue. The NFL wants the same for the NFLN. Since the NFL exclusively owns the NFLN, the cable providers do not have an ownership interest and want to place the NFLN in a "sports tier" so people will pay them more for the privilege to watch it. This action also drastically reduces the audience and the advertising revenue to the NFL for the NFLN.

Therein lies the argument. The NFL accuses the cable providers of maintaining a double standard for programming and has been insisting on inclusion in the basic tier in their negotiations. At the same time the NFL is insisting on a fairly high rate payment by the cable providers for the rights to carry the NFLN. Some cable providers maintain that they control where programming goes and will not accept the NFL's terms.

Things will probably take a dramatic turn next week when many people realize they are not going to be able to watch the GB vs Dallas game. There will be a hue and cry at that time.

If you like football and want all of those "non-football fans" to help you pay for the service then you want the NFL to win. If you hate football, you want the cable providers to win and have all of those tacky football fans pay for the privilege of watching their silly game. ;)

yep, I have comcast now, and for a couple of weeks when I first got it, NFLN was part of the regular digital pkg, then one day, i couldn't access it anymore. I talked to CSR and they were like...we don't want people who don't watch it to pay for it, so they forced me to get the sports tier pkg (I say forced because I obviously want NFLN) for $3 then $6 after 6 months. Yet, by taking away NFLN in the regular digital pkg, they did not lower the price for it. baastahds, liars, and cheats.

I gladly pay for NFL sports programming.

If you don't have Sunday Ticket and NFL Network you are truly missing out on a great thing. I love my dish..... never a cable fan other than Internet access.

Agreed. I love my DirecTV, and would never consider going back to cable.

I don't understand why people still use cable.

On demand channels, much faster internet service, 8 TVs (3 HDTVs) in the house at no extra cost, insurance won't cover damage caused by dish antenna during wind storms, etc...

I hope the nfl loses I don't have cable AKA rich peoples tv only bunny ears so i want to be able to watch the games without buying a dish.

Directv has on demand,Verizon DSL offers much better routers for wireless throughout the house (I have a laptop next to the porcelain throne that I'm typing this on right now), 11 TVs (5 HD) with tons more HD channels and a much better picture (and still pay less than cable), 1/2 the outages and if the wind's strong enough to rip my dishes off given that they're facing south, I have much bigger concerns than if insurance will cover a few shingles.

The only reason someone could offer to not have sattelite tv is if they lived in a college dorm.

DSL is a joke compared to the speed I get with cable. It's not even close. It's much cheaper too.

I don't understand the "better" picture thing. HDTV is HDTV. How can one be better than the other? It's digital and when it storms I don't have to worry about loss of picture as I do with satellite. And since I do live in a high wind area I do have to worry aboutg wind damage. Plus, they're ugly.

If you can't tell the difference between a Directv HD picture and a cable HD picture, you wasted your money buying HD tvs.

I've lost my signal for a grand total of 46 minutes this year, my closest friend has cable (it's a wager we made so we're keeping track) and he's lost his for 4 hours and 24 minutes so far (it's only between 3:00 PM -12:00 AM M-Th 3:0 PM - 2:00 AM fridays and 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM weekends).

Yea, they may be ugly but that didn't stop my neighbor from driving over after noticing the dishes so he could watch a Penn State game that I was enjoying on the Big Ten Network that he couldn't get despite living less than 35 miles from Beaver Stadium.

I get 33 pay movie channels, better than 50 sports channels including the NFL games on NFLN and college games on the BTN, DSL, land line phone and 4 cellular phones for less than $175 a month thanks to bundling between DirecTV and Verizon and the incredible customer service that DirecTV provides.

What continent do you call when you dial your cable provider?
