What if Jerry Rice had become a Cowboy? Obviously, Rice is the geatest and would have helped those late 80s Cowboys teams on offense. Jerry Rice along with Herschel Walker and Tony Dorsett would have been formidable. Tony Hill would have still been a good #2 receiver. The defense was still going backwards, but that offense may have been able to win a few more games. The offense was clicking in 1986 as is until White broke his wrist. Maybe with Rice they do better, but in the long run it may not have been a good thing.
One decision can lead to another and another. With Rice on board, Dallas may not draft Irvin in 88. That is okay because Rice is Rice. What about Aikman in 89? Maybe Rice helps Dallas win more than 3 games in 88 and they don't get the #1 overall pick. Perhaps they end up with Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders or Tony Mandarich. Maybe they win enough games from 1985-1988(Rice's first four years) that Bum Bright does not sell the team and Jerry and Jimmy never join the Cowboys.
It is fun to imagine different scenarios.
