It's getting worse and it needs to change.

#1 - Get rid of dead ball penalties that don't allow replays. We'll call it the Hochuli rule. Too many big plays are changing due to outdated rules.

#2 - Allow a team to challenge a penalty. Ask Ed Reed if he actually touched the punter. Or, better yet, view a replay.

What else?

The guys that bet on games, their heads would explode.

That roughing the punter call was one of the worst I have seen all year.

Having said that I wish someone would teach McBriar how to flop.

I've never understood why some plays were not challenge-able, because of how the play ends. Because the ball is allegedly out of bounds, can't challenge? The play is reviewable if the WR catches it and they rule him out of bounds. You can review it to see if he got both feet in. What's the difference? It's not like the play didn't come to a completion because everyone thought it was out of bounds.

I understand why penalties aren't reviewable, keep it that way.

I've been a big advocate of full time officials for a long time.

Some of those blown calls this year were simply horrible.

At this point I don't know if full time refs would help or not.

But I wish Goodell would address this issue in the off season.

Maybe some changes are coming................

Officiating chief Pereira to retire

NEW YORK -- Mike Pereira, who has headed the NFL's officiating department since 2001, will retire after the 2009 season.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said that Pereira, who will turn 60 next year, told commissioner Roger Goodell after last season that next year would be his final one. He and his wife will return to his native northern California.

Pereira's retirement was first disclosed by Fox Sports.

Pereira has been one of the most open chiefs of officiating in NFL history. He has used technology, including a show on the NFL Network, to help explain decisions and talks regularly to the media, including a session at the annual NFL meetings that includes game tapes and quizzes.

He also sends out officiating tapes several times a year on both routine and controversial decisions.

This is the main problem with replay. If you are going to have it, EVERYTHING should be reviewable. Questions about possession, clock, in or out of bounds, penalties, etc, etc, etc. EVERYTHING. I thought that was what replay was supposed to do. Correct mistakes made on the field by the officials. I guess I was wrong.

Also im sick of old refs, they need to be fit and young. Must be able to keep up with the play, move out of the way and actually see things. These old guys probably cant hardly see 50 feet.

...and with the 1st pick in the 2010 NFL Officials Draft, the East Coast selects... :laugh2:

Yep, its awful. And they continue to be in complete denial that there's a problem.

Forget the borderline stuff, they continually miss OBVIOUS stuff by making something up that wasnt there, or missing the obvious call and doing nothing.

What really sucks is that if Harbaugh or one of the Ravens players says ANYTHING about the blown "roughing the punter" call they'll get fined. God forbid someone says something negative about the officials even if it's the truth and we could all see it on replay.

the refs arent there to make every call, if they did, the game would be totally unwatchable. they are simply stage managers for the reailty show.

There are so many blown calls in american sports that it can't just be human error. What a coincidence that there are $billions in gambling.

At least the Italians (in their soccer league) have balls to bust refs linked to illegal activity. Mostly gambling.

After my frustrations, I've concluded that golf is the only sport that has no ref corruption.

Refs will make mistakes, it's the nature of humanity. However, it's when they blow it then say, well sorry, we blew it but by rule we can't fix it, that I get annoyed.

They already make over $100K for the 16 (or more) games they do per year.

They make enough money already to be considered "Full Time" officials.
